Figured I'd follow up with what we did in the event anyone takes a similar trip.

Drove to DC from BWI on Friday and parked in a garage for the day ($23).
Saw some sights, White House/Washington Monument/Smithsonian.
Had lunch at Old Ebbit Grill, definilty recommend. DC Brau on tap.
Proceeded to chain restaurant hell in Frederick. Tried a place called BJ's food was ok, they make their own beer I tried the IPA and it was TERRIBLE, moved to guest taps which were plentiful but nothing great, Dale's/Fat Tire,Stone IPA.
I did hit Flying Dogs taproom, nothing to write home about, Would have been better if I had people with me, average beers.
Headed to Baltimore Inner Harbor, caught the Pats game with a few beers. Evolution Brewey lot #3 IPA was the best beer if the trip. Good food at Phillips on the water.
Thanks for all the suggestions, couldn't get to them all as we were tied up with the kids team for a few dinners.

Agreed on most counts, except Monocacy is better than so-so (although you'd do better experiencing their beers at Brewers Alley), and I thought Red Shedmann was a real letdown.

I love that you can pop into Flying Dog for a pint of flight now - that would be my #1 recommendation,

Sorry BJ's didn't work out, but thought with kids it would be a good option to dine and find some good brews. I agree their house beers are lousy, but I thought their guest taplist and numerous bottles were pretty solid. More leaning towards European quality beers (German, Belgian etc) than American craft but still good.
