According to the Washington Post, DC Brau is no longer giving out the free samples which they used to offer, thanks to people trying to circumvent the legal limits. From the article:
It's a pity that a few greedy and cheap people had to ruin this for everyone else.

It never seems to fail. It is true that a few bad apples spoil the whole batch.

Why would DC Brau allow people to game the system? If they see something they should stop it from happening. They are punishing the innocent here IMO.

This is the first I've heard of this. I haven't heard of any attempts to remedy the situation either. By canceling these samples they may just be attempting to save money, but blaming the how and why on something I've yet to ever here addressed by the company.

    What do I know though?

Call me cynical, but that was my first thought as well.

That's the way it goes, only takes a handful of individuals to ruin something for the masses.

Not worth the bother for a fair to middling brewery.

So if I want to taste something before I buy a growler full, I have to purchase a pint of it? No thanks.

Rushing Duck recently did the same. It was definitely not because of "gaming the system" though. Originally they just had free samples, no tickets, then it was limited free samples, no tickets, then it was 6 tickets and 6 (max) free samples. Now it is flights and pints for sale at extremely reasonable prices.

I believe it is meant to keep the tap room from becoming jammed, and to make an extra profit. Nobody was handing out unused tickets to anyone else.

Though in DC, world capital of gaming the system, it wouldn't surprise me if that is what was going on.

They're selling $2 tasters. I think they were the only DC brewery that still offered free samples.

Exactly this. I know DC laws suck regarding how breweries can serve beer on site, but the place is a dump. I would grab some OTWOA and get the hell outta there. I heard some friends say people were sticking around and getting hammered off of free samples, which is pretty low. I'm sure a lot of people here work in an office and understands that free shit brings out the worst in people. This is no exception.

It was fun to make the rounds of all the breweries in DC on a Saturday afternoon back when they were all pretty new, but with the extended hours and the fact that they (at least DC Brau) aren't exactly producing lots of new and adventurous brews all the time, I have a hard time finding a reason to even go there these days. I've already tasted most of their products and formed an opinion on them.

    Cool, didn't know that, thanks.

Getting OTWOA is the only reason I ever go, I'll usually try a new (to me) beer if they have any and consider a growler but no desire to hang out there.

that is pathetic, but believable. the funny part is that these are people who are only interested in getting hammered for as cheaply as possible and would just as soon drink beast and yet they are getting their kicks off OTWOA instead.

The idea of driving out to bladensburg road for samples is a difficult pill to swallow. I suppose someone did that though.
