DC/MD/NoVA Beer Updates (2018)

Man... all the local shops keep trying to make Commonwealth happen. It’s not going to happen. The flood of IG posts when their cans hit has gotten annoying. The rare hit doesn’t need this kind of fanfare.

 

Maybe Commonwealth should distro locally to all of us suckers who can’t make a trip to the brewery. FWIW I’ve had the same problems with Big Papi before they were dated and put me off big time

 

Has anyone brought it to their attention?

 

I'm not sure why people care about Commonwealth. They're simply not that good in my experience. Add some QC problems, and I won't be giving them second or third chances.

You all may want to rethink the urge to spend $4-5 on a 16oz (oxidized?) can.

I've had some oxidized Big Papi cans in the past, but it seemed to stop when they hired a new brewer. Sucks if that is still happening, so I guess I've gotten lucky?

Drinking a Maoritanga right now, and it's fantastic. Citrus qualities of the Waimea hop are very pronounced, but not as bitter as expected which is nice.

 

I’m heading to Annandale VA tomorrow any good bottle shops or bars to check out. Already plan on making the stop into Aslin tomorrow.

 

Dominion Wine and Beer in Falls Church is my favorite. Good can/bottle selection, plus 12 taps for growler/crowler fills.

 

Nice lineup of bottles at CBC tomorrow for anyone who hasn't seen. Toppling Goliath in the AM, then Canillton, Drie, and others throughout the day.

 

Just curious, where did you see this?

 

They made a post about it, but the specific bottle release they e-mailed, so perhaps you need to be on their e-mail distro.

 

Any indication on the prices of those bottles? I can't see Hommage retailing for under $50 there...

 

I know last year I bought Kriek from them at around 37$, so >50 sounds correct

 

It was $45 - thought that was about right.

 

Wow. I am surprised at that. I have had nothing but good experiences with Commonwealth. But I have been lucky and gotten them all relatively fresh. Plenty of other stuff to spend your money on but maybe one more change. They are putting out some very good beers. They are one of my Virginia favorites behind the big three TC/Veil/Aslin.

 

Hi guys. I’m in Baltimore for work through Friday and have a few open nights. Would love to check out the beer scene here. Only looking for on premise unless cans are easy to get. Coming from Portsmouth NH so excited to see what’s popular and a must hit here or DC. Nice to be out of New England. So far I was told 3 stars. Feel free to DM to not clog it. Appreciate any help

 

Seems like Singlecut stopped shipping to DC. Is that temporary?

 

I don't think they stopped -- Hop, Cask and Barrel in Georgetown just tweeted in the last few days that they got some in.

I would hit up Churchkey, because it's one of the best beer bars in the country. If you need bottles/cans to-go, then hit up Craft Beer Cellar on H St.
