Happy New Year all!
Whole Foods Clarendon had Cassowary, BCBS, BA Ten Fiddy, and CBS on the shelf
Will this be the year that everyone gets sick of overly sweet syrupy stouts?
Seems that way. Total Wine here in Alexandria had dozens of CBS sitting around.
Also, not quite DMV, but we made the drive up to Dirt Farm Brewing yesterday and I can safely say I've never been to a brewery with a better view than you will get there. Absolutely stunning from their patio. Beer was solid, but the view was worth the trip alone.
I sure as hell hope so, but no I don’t think so.
Have you been to Kloster Andechs, Banff Brewing, or Pelican Brewpub?
Anyone try that Solace/Meridian Pint collab Cheat Day?
I tried it at the brewery but didn't take detailed notes. It was good, but I prefer Partly Cloudy.
Yea, I had a can last night. I really enjoyed it. It's juicy with a little dankness, but clean. I like their hoppy beers more than Aslin nowadays.
I wasn't that impressed with Partly Cloudy and Sun's Out, but their one offs have been really good, most notably Super Dope
I sadly missed the drop but does anyone know of any stores that have Commonwealth Marviloso variants still available?
Happy New Year!
if you make it back that way check out Bear Chase Brewing, its on the other side of the ridge with a pretty solid view
Maybe try K-1 or My Local Bree Shop, stuff seems to hang around
Cheat Day is very nice, glad I picked up a 4 pack.
Two recent IPAs from local breweries that really impressed me: Solace/Meridian Pint's Cheat Day and Ocelot's Moonlight Drive. I've had a lot of great IPAs recently (Treehouse, Monkish, Veil, etc) and these are right up there.
Anyone want some 6 bottle shippers? I have 3 upright and 2 horizontal which are in average condition. I wouldn’t be opposed to trading these for a couple of fresh IPAs but not a requirement. I am local to Arlington and work in College Park.
Best IPAs I've had in 2019: Triple Crossing Bright Lights, Ocelot Gorgeous & Alone, Solace Cheat Day (obvious bias)
Dynasty Electro Vision right there as well.
Really dug Gorgeous & Alone.
3 day old Hopslam has hit town. Seems a bit cheaper than year's past too.
Found some at my local bottle shop here in Haymarket. Also grabbed a four pack of Easy Peasy. Have thoroughly enjoyed both.
Ton of it at WF H St for $20.99. CBC H St also should have it, not sure on price there.
I think someone in NoVA had it at $20, maybe Norm's. Doesn't sound any cheaper.
Just when I thought I was done with Hopslam, these ultra-fresh cans pulled me back in again. Really good, even in these NEIPA days.
Had Cheat Day on tap at MP and loved it. Who has cans in DC proper?
Delicious beer for sure. Good luck with cans, I'd call CBC or D'Vines as a starting point. The small store I run, which happens to be a block from MP, sold 5 cases in like 3 days which doesn't happen often. The snowstorm certainly helped this and I tried to re-up for the beginning of that week but the distributor has sold through. Happy hunting, new Solace/ Manor Hill IPA collab hitting stores this week!
Impressed by Astro Lab on my first visit. They’re making some very nice juicy IPAs.
Not in DC but Arrowine in Arlington did have Cheat Day earlier this week. May want to call and confirm.
*Full Disclosure* - I am an employee of The Bruery
The Bruery Store at Union Market is having our 1 Year Anniversary event at the shop today. We'll be giving away 3 Free bottles of beer to the first 100 people in line and 2 Free bottles of beer to the next 100 people. Anyone who signs up for the Preservation Society or spends over $100 will receive a Free Offshoot Beer Co. 4-pack. Cheers!
4 packs of KBS at Safeway in Arlington for $22 each yesterday
Sampled Easy Peasy yesterday. Not sure what they were going for yesterday, but not good. How Solace would be mentioned in the same sentence as Aslin or Ocelot is beyond me.
I don't drink fruited lactose IPAs so I'm not sure about that one, but Cheat Day is up there with some Aslin and Ocelot stuff I've had. No question.
Solace does get points for, you know, actually having cans widely available. You have to go to the brewery or find it on draft for the other two. While I like the other two better, it's nice to have a pretty good to good IPA producer with availability throughout the Greater DC Metro area.
I'd also say making the leap from having their session IPA and using that as why it shouldn't be compared to Ocelot or Aslin is a strange to me.
Yep, yep and yep.
I had Easy Peasy. Since when is a 7% abv beer with lemons, vanilla and lactose considered a "session IPA?"
I'd call that a milkshake IPA, and it was definitely a below average milkshake IPA.
Since making that post, I also had a can of Party Cloudy, which I'd saw was slightly above average.
Easy Peasy: Brewed with Lemondrop and Amarillo hops, lemons, vanilla, and lactose. Lemony, vanilla, and slightly sweet, 7% abv
My mistake. I confused Easy Peasy for Suns Out, Hops Out.
Any chance Pliny the Younger gets any closer to us than Philly?
Yeah and it's called Ocelot Talking Backwards
Thursday at Meridian Pint on draft. Can release Friday at Ocelot!
