DC/MD/NoVA Beer Updates (2019)

Downtown Crown. Located in Gaithersburg. Same dudes that own Dominion in Falls Church own that place. They have been getting OH drops a couple times a month. The prices are the same as from the brewery as well, so no up charge.

Speaking of, whatever happened with OH opening up in DC (Ivy City). That still happening?

 

I've heard it's still on, but haven't heard a timeframe or exact location.

Agree on the OH drops at DTC, no need to go to Aslin anymore....unless I need a new skate board

 

Yeah these OH drops are great. The oat cream mash they use seems a lot easier on my stomach than straight lactose.

 

DTC still has OH cans from the Fri drop. Double Cream Get the Honey is fuego.

 

When is Dominion going to show us some Other Half love? My June can supply is running low. Might have to start drinking that "swill beer" /s from Aslin.

 

Yeah, I talked to the guys at Dominion about this last week. Apparently there's a loophole in Maryland law that lets OH self-distribute to DTC. No such luck in Virginia.

 

Weird, since they were able to sell Equilibrium cans?

 

True that drops at DTC have been more common but there were OH cans at Dominion a few months ago that coincided with a tap takeover.

 

Yeah, not sure how they worked around that. Maybe because of the tap takeover? Dunno.

 

I think the difference is that Equilibrium came through a distributor, and OH isn't aligned with a distributor. That was my understanding anyway.

 

Shoulda bought more OH last weekend. Hoping for a ldw drop at DTC

 

In Maryland you can self distribute, and just pay a fee for your brewery to enter the state. In Virginia, aside from paying a fee to enter the state you also need a distributor. In rare cases the brewery will pay to enter the state and do a one time contract with a distributor for special occasions.
