As mentioned above, Ocelot Sunnyside is solid as is their Helles (Helles Awaits) which I believe is available now. I've really been enjoying Von Trap beers recently, seek those out if you don't get them in NJ.

In the city, Right Proper may have some saisons/farmhouse beers.

    Short answer: No.

In DC the only decent pilsners I have had were made by Atlas or DC Brau, and they're nothing to brag about. The DC Brau Keller Pils was pretty good, but I don't think it's around anymore. Their flagship Brau Pils is fine I guess. But when you can get 2 liters of Bitburger for $5.49 I'm sure as shit not paying $12 a sixer for something local and inferior.

Crooked Run Coast is a pretty good Pilsner

I don't have a long history of experiencing them, but I've enjoyed Port City's rotational lagers. It looks like they have a Tmave and a Rauch on right now (I need that Rauch!). I'll give them a shout.

+1 for anything Ocelot, Crooked Run or Port City makes. Bluejacket also has both a good kellerbier and a rauch at the moment that are available in cans at the brewery.

DC is actually relatively strong when it comes to lagers (imo). I consider DC Brau's Pils to be very good, and Bluejacket always has a handful of really solid lagers as well. Previous posts are certainly selling us short.

I was a member last year, definitely worth it.

What makes you say that? There isn't a whole lot from them that I find desirable, and most people I know in the club complain about how they have a ton of beer they don't want now.

Hellbender has great saisons. Southern Torrent is really good.

My how times have changed when we're talking about who makes the best local pilsners and saisons on the day Founders CBS is scheduled to be released.

I'm old enough to remember people lining up for KBS and BCBS.

Everytime I got my box, there's be at least 1 beer I'd never heard of that ended up being good more times than not. I found Black Tuesday to be a massive disappointment but their sours were usually really good.

What are the go-to stores in D.C. (or the surrounding area) to snag Hardywood GBS and variants (CM, KCM, Boubon GBS, etc.)? Just wondering what social media accounts to scope to see when they are released. Years ago I think I got a bunch at Trader Joe's on 14th but stumbled across that info randomly, probably on this thread...

I realize the original and variants are released at different times but I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck when making the trip(s) from Baltimore.

Thanks for posting that. I'm holding out for the $10 rebate.

I saw stacks of CBS, and picked up a four pack. The guy in front of me has KBS, not CBS, which I found peculiar. Maybe he was inspired by the rebate offer.

Has Commonwealth gotten any better/consistent with their IPAs?

I stopped buying them earlier this year after being disappointed numerous times, but they had a few beers that were incredible so I always held on to a little hope.

The whole area gets pretty saturated with Bourbon GBS. The other two are a bit harder to come by - Total Wine and Wegmans out towards Fairfax are your best bets for these being available. In the past bottles showed up the week following the release. Just give a call to the store before making the trip.

Beyond Trader Joe’s, which gets lots of the GBS releases at low cost, check out Arrowine and The Brew Shop in ArlIngton, and Dominion Wine and Beer in Falls Church — they’ll get in anything that makes it up to NoVA.

If you are in the area, then definitely check these places out. If you are coming from Baltimore I would follow them on Insta for a heads up to deliveries but they typically only get a handful of cases that never last beyond a couple of days.
