If sounds like you like NEIPAs, Try BlueJacket Waves IPA if they have it on draft tomorrow. I had it on draft last week at Oscars Ale House in Frederick, and thought it was one of the best I’ve had in quite a while.
Thanks for the heads up! I sampled most of the IPAs at BlueJacket yesterday, and a few other styles. Enjoyed a few of them more than others and Waves was near the top of the list. Food was good and really enjoyed the space overall.
Norm’s got Lawson‘s double sunshine today. So it should be popping up around the area next week or so. Dated 1/19/26 and delicious
Had a question for my fellow Mid-Atlantic brethren. I see the reviews and am definitely intrigued…is Elder Pine Brewing legit? In particular the big beers and their pilsner. Because those are high ratings and I’d like to see the opinion of any of the regulars in this thread. Thanks in advance
I've only had three labels from them, and multiple cans of each of those three, but I'd say the ratings are more or less legit across that limited sample. All three I've tried have been barrel aged--a rye wine, an English barleywine, and a dark lager blend--and my Untappd ratings came fairly close to the averages. That said, as much as I enjoyed what I had, I really wanted to like them more, and I'm not exactly inclined to go out of my way to give them further chances to impress me. With their Virginia distro being so limited, I don't see myself buying more of their stuff in the foreseeable future. Hope that helps.
I have been to the brewery a few times, yes they are legit. Elder Pine and Sapwood Cellats are the best breweries in the DMV.
It did thank you. I’m planning a stop at State Line tomorrow and they have a bunch of BA stuff, a bitter and a pilsner and they all have good ratings. They have some $28/4-pack 17% DB barleywine for christs sake lol. I’m also already in for a case at Human Robot so there’s only so much money to spend.
They're one of the few that seem to nail most of the styles they brew. Definitely at the top for Maryland breweries
Focal banger in the case at Wegmans in Fairfax. Just note it is canned on 11/4/25. I really didn’t want to day drink, but I had to crack one open as soon as I got home to check it. Still taste great.
I have to agree on Charlottesville, my wife and I spent a long weekend there last year. By coincidence we ran into our next door neighbors there, a couple of foodies that like to bend the elbow as well. I learned that the Charlottesville area has one of the highest concentration of breweries, wineries, restaurants and bars per-capita on the east coast. A fun little town to spend some time in. Also agree with ElderPine and Sapwood, both are top tier breweries and make some high quality products.
A little update. Ended up getting the imp stout, BA Porter, DB Barleywine and the ESB by Elder Pine (split with a friend), and the ESB was fantastic (angry geezer). Hoping to try one of the big beers this weekend. Got Resist from Adroit Theory and guesstimating less than a month old from their IG page (they post A LOT) and have to say it’s right there with any of the DIPAs I get around me. Would have loved to get Invisible Ink, which I got last year because that was delicious too. The EP stuff was a little pricy so I also got a 4 of Double NN and called it a day…plus a case of Human Robot (plus an extra 4 of Assimilator they had left) I’d call it a good haul. Plus…popped into Churchkey on Friday for dinner and wow is their food good. We went last year too but their wings were top 5 ever for me plus a catfish sandwich…yum. ‘24 Coffee Abraxas and Forest & Main Paper King IPA on cask. Fidens The Farmer. Wish I took a pic of the wings lol
Right Proper moving out of Shaw to a not yet named new location (Eckington location still coming too). Shaw brewing equipment is staying put, as someone is taking over with a new brewpub concept.
Huge drop of Heady Topper in the area today (K1 Beer & Wine and Dominion Wine & Beer). I stopped at K1 mostly because it was closer to work (Dominion is closer to home, so if I missed out that’s where I would have went), they had about 25 cases, sold by individual cans $5.99, four-pack 19.99 and case $109.99 (Dominion was selling 4-packs at $18.99). Tomorrow Arlington Brew Shop gets their delivery. Dates on the cans were 2/18/26.
Same thing in Hampton Roads area as well if anyone was looking, I grabbed a 4pk at the TW in Norfolk, but apparently it is at the other ones in the area as well.
Hawkley Brewing in Herndon, Va (former Juicy Brewing and Aslin OG space) opening up this weekend (3/20/2026-3/22/2026). Will have 10 beers on tap and 5 beers in cans to-go according of their social media post. Can view their taplist on Untappd.
