I apologize if this has been covered in other posts. Me and some friends are heading to the Allentown area early Saturday morning, and returning around lunchtime. Would love recommendations for a brewery there that serves lunch, or a good lunch spot where I can grab some beer(s) to take back that I might not find in DC.

    Thanks folks!

Allentown, PA? You'll be heading up I476 in PA, which means you'll be about 10 minutes from Tired Hands. Not a bad place to stop off and have lunch and grab a bottle or growler.

Only the Fermentaria, opens at 12, and is now open 7 days a week. Brew Cafe opens at 4 and is closed mondays.

Brew Cafe opens at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Sounds like he will be heading up Saturday, so he could hit either, or both.

Yeah will only have time for one. Definite premium placed on quick access, not having to drop into Philly. I assume both sell packaged beer to go?

Sure, just show up at 6 am and bring your first born!

In all seriousness, I'm not sure what their release schedule looks like coming up, but theirs are the type of releases that you line up for and shell out $20 for four-packs. I don't think they usually have cans lying around, but they do offer growler fills.

If you're looking for a good bottle shop, you could stop off at State Line Liquors in Elkton MD, just off of 95.

I'll second State Line - it's a great place, tons of selection and reasonable prices.

Looks like both Tired Hands spots are right off the highway, or reasonably so. Looks like Fermentaria is a bit closer, and does lunch. Opens at noon. Perfect.

Final question: Do the TH locations fill growlers that aren't theres? Not sure of Penn law.

No, they don't fill growlers that aren't theirs, but they will trade one of theirs for yours.

Most of the breweries around the Allentown/Bethlehem area (Funk, Yergey, HiJinx, Bonn Place) do not serve food. Fegley's is right in Allentown and is a brewpub, but their beer is a mixed bag. https://thebrewworks.com/

Don't know exactly where you'll be in the Allentown area, but there is a great gastropub in Emmaus (just south of Allentown) called Trapp Door that has good food and beer (including a few cask beers if you like that kinda thing). http://www.thetrappdoorgastropub.com/

They do have food trucks stop by, but I don't see a January schedule posted.

My group drinks craft beer, but wouldn't go out of their way to hit a brewery. Tired Hands Fermentaria has food for sure and is only 3 minutes off the highway, so I think that'll be the call.

    Thanks everyone!

Hopefully you and your group enjoy! If you get a chance to go to both, try it out, both totally different experiences. The bread at the brew cafe is killer.

I agree. Depending upon your time @lateralusbeer, I say do both. They are literally a 5 minute walk/2 minute drive from each other.
