On the good side, I discovered Kangaroo Boxing Club after having fled Meridian after being between tables of the couples I described the third time we were there. I was trapped by the walls of terrible sound from all directions.

As a Michigan Alumni, KBC is great. As a BBQ lover, you must do the brunch. The beer selection is four on tap, but three are quality Michigan brews.

There are some great eating places there in Columbia Heights. That being said, MP and Red Rocks are your two best selection places for beer.

My advice for Bluejacket is to appreciate the trainwreck while we can. No way this can keep up the way their beers have been going, no matter how much money NRG has to throw at this tirefire.

I think the question that really needs asking is why the hell anyone would want to come to DC on vacation (unless you're visiting family).

As a well rounded old Washingtonian I am telling you all right now... get off my lawn.

I'll check out Right P. and Blue, always up for more venues... and when you are my age... you can never be hip...

    and get off my lawn.

Don't shave for a month, wear flannel, and get buddy holly glasses. Claim you listen to a band in Germantown that plays weddings, and they are the best ever. You will fit right in.

I thought having the almighty Greg Engert on board meant the beer was going to be the bestest ever beer ever made EVER. Or did he just draw the menu? Because aesthetically, it looks a lot like the draft list at ChurchKey; the main difference being that I don't want to drink anything listed on it.

I have a good government job, I moved here from a place where RFD would have been the greatest place EVAR for beer. I love it here, but I wouldn't if I couldn't live in Nova (issue with the gun laws).

Dude, there are 500 reasons to come here. Leaving aside the White House and Congress, I could and have spent multiple days at the Air and Space Mall, and am nowhere near done with the A&S Dulles. My wife loves American History. Zoo, the Gallery at Gallery Place...

If you are a Vet, Arlington plus Navy or Marines or Air Force. It is all here, along with some pretty darn good places to drink beer.

It is easy to say "WoB is Teh Suxor, I am going Churchkey". But if you came here from Lima with your kids and are staying in a hotel off the Orange, stopping at WoB for a few (8) after your kids saw Congress and the Constitution and Spirit of St Louis is pretty darn cool.

Fair enough. When I go on vacation in America, I prefer mountains and beaches. Places like Colorado, California, Oregon, and Washington (state) come to mind. The fact that those places have great beer is a bonus. If I want culture, I go to NYC, or Europe. If there is good beer there, it's a bonus. To me, DC doesn't have a lot of nature, culture, or for that matter good architecture, so not really high on my list of places I'd want to visit. Though it's a good (enough) area to raise my family and find some good beer. Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread. I guess different people have different interests. Different strokes for different folks.

This thread has been really crazy. Couple of points from me:
    - DC Brau sells cans, growlers and occasionally bombers on site.
    - If you like nature, don't vacation in DC or any other metropolitan city.
    - I don't find the clientele at Right Proper, Bluejacket or Meridian Pint to be overly hipster. I frequent these places with my wife often and 1) I am not a hipster and 2) I am not offended like The(notso)FunGuy by the people there.
    - RFD used to be a destination but the food there is worse than the tap selection and the tap selection is barely a step above a random bar. It is very, very loud too.
    - Check out the Big Hunt. Vastly underrated.

Really? You don't? Reference my post above about Right Proper. Hipsters don't offend me in the least. I am kinda sorta a part of that beer loser hip neckbeard crowd. So, yeah.

Big Hunt is actually overrated IMO. They do get good stuff, but it is the bad kind of dark, the bad kind of dirty, and just overall meh. If you are going to Dupont, you have 3 options that are WAYYYYYYY better. Paradiso, Bier Baron, and Scion are all so much better in every way.

I was at PP in Georgetown last year during the 3 Floyds event. I sat at the bar upstairs and had great beer and service. The food looked great but I did not have any as I stopped in after I had eaten already. The price of the beer was Really affordable considering it was in DC and a 3 Floyds night. $6 a pint for Space station middle finger, Zombie dust, and all the other beers, only Back masking was $6 for 12oz. not sure why but it was good. The only thing I can say bad is that flights of 4 4oz pours was $12.

I was there during brewers week and thought it would be insane busy. The WF up the street had a decent selection of take out as well.

    Enjoy

Big Hunt runs hot and cold. You can go 5 times and it is great service and recommendations, even when crowded, and the next two times the entire staff are rude and bitchy (men and women). Good selection of beers, usually well priced for the area.

The bathrooms are gross, and some of the customers are not all that nice even before they get lit.

I have heard from some unnamed sources close to the situation that Parisi was definitely not the cause of the mediocre beers coming out of Bluejacket. If you're looking for someone to blame, point your finger at Mr. Engert.

I'm going to plug the Greg Engert/Neighborhood Restaurant machine here and highly recommend checking out GBD in Dupont circle (Golden/Brown/Delicious). Any time a friend visits the area, I take them there to drink beer and eat fried chicken sandwiched between donuts.

I suppose the key phrase was "overly hipster". Truthfully, the clientele at RP (and Meridian) is just like Churchkey, minus the d-bags who go to Churchkey and order Manhattans.

On The Hunt, if we compared an empty Paradiso to an empty Hunt, then you would definitely have my agreement. But the bar at Paradiso is the size of a postage stamp and it's always busy. Hunt has plenty of space, plus a roof top deck. There are always a couple of drafts I've never had. This probably makes me sound like a part owner of the Hunt. Just an average beer drinker.

I hear ya. Actually, the description on page 1, with "Big Hunt is good 3 times, then terrible twice" is more accurate to the times I've had there. When they did KBS/CBS a few years ago, I got there and got like 3 pours of CBS. It was awesome. And then there were a TON of douchebags that filtered in and the bartenders got surly, so my friend and I went to Paradiso. It's just such a Jekyll and Hyde place.

I went to an event at The Big Hunt that had both KBS and Black Note during beer week a couple of years ago, along with a whole Bell's event lineup. There were about 10 people waiting outside for the doors to open. I stayed for maybe 3 hours, and the place never really got that full. Had my fill of those two and moved on to some other Bell's stuff, and David Bell showed up and was kind enough to listen to my drunken ramblings. I proceeded to Bier Baron (themselves pouring BCBS), and on my way back was able to stop back at the Hunt for yet another Black Note.

I like that it's the kind of place that if you show up at opening for an event, you'll beat the crowd. Don't know if it's still that way, but I was expecting a shitshow that never materialized.
