I've been hearing a lot of great things about de Garde Brewing and I see that most of their beers have pretty stellar ratings on here. However, almost all their brews have "Bu" strategically placed in their titles. Can anyone clear this one up for me once and for all?

Also, BAs on here who have tried de Garde, which are your favorites? Are they worth an arm and a leg trying to seek out from the opposite end of the country?

    Cheers, all.

The "Bu" series are all Berliner Weisses. I would say their beers are definitely worth seeking out!
    Cheers!

The Lily isn't a Bu, but it is the only beer I've ever reviewed a perfect 5. Definitely worth an arm and a leg. The other stuff is a lot easier to get I think. And the Bu series is delicious in so many ways. The imperial Bu are gonna be harder to get. They're all definitely worth going after though.

    What does "Bu" mean precisely?

Lily was a "keepers" bottle. All the "keepers" bottles - bottles sold more or less only to club members - will be harder to trade for. Each keeper this year gets 2 unique bottles per quarter. Next year there are 2 keeper memberships - one for berliners and one for wilds. These should still be "unique" to club members.

Of the non-keeper stuff, wild / wine barrel aged stuff is still pretty hard to trade for. Berliners are maybe easier since the bottle limits are high.

I actually posted a thread in the trade help forum to discuss, but I think there's something unique about De Garde in that the beers are VERY affordable - $9 - $14 usually - and often released on short notice with pretty high limits (6 bottle or case) but they're still only 400 bottles (or less).

A buddy shared some Imperial Apricot Bu recently and I've gotta say it was truly an incredible beer. Would love to try it or any of their beers again.
