That's because service charge is included in our bills. Tips aren't customary here, so they are generally a lot friendlier. Money... always a good incentive.

 

I LIVE IN EUROPE and this was exceptionally bad -- I couldn't even get a drink to have with my meal, despite asking on a number of occasions, both before it came out and as I was eating.
Evidently they sometimes just can't be bothered.

Kulminator is open from 4 pm tell 12 am

 

No, I sent it back and had to wait for them to bring the right thing. They charged me for the wrong thing, which I think was more expensive, but am not sure. Regardless, in the US if they fuck up your order you don't pay (I had that happen recently, actually).

Well i've you had the correct meal after the mistake and you eat it then it's normal that you pay for it , but they could have given you a free beer to make it even for the mistake and say sorry
But i've the charge you for the wrong meal , thats not correct ! I would have asked the menu and told the waiter that i want to pay for my meal that i ordered and eaten !

 

Well, at that point I had already waited half an hour to get the check, I wasn't going to risk ANOTHER huge delay, I just wanted to get the fuck out of there.

 

Ugh, this is what I thought but I've been told on BA that all you need to do is buy the whole flight. And you can save bottles for take-away.

I'm inclined to think that both might be true. Could just be the mood of the day.

 

That would be Dirk. He's known for being bi-polar. Tourists do start out behind the eight-ball and frankly at times I can understand why.

But he and his wife (Lena? who is much more approachable, well lets say even keeled) do in time make friends with us Americans. UncleJimbo or others might be able to give some guidance. Personally I've never had a bad experience but I'm not on the "A" list either. After the third or fourth trip with-in a trip it does seem like I'm treated a bit better. But I seem to start at square one every year.

 

Leen and yes, they're your typical Antwerp people. Very tough shell to crack, but once you're in, it's all good

 

I went 3 days in a row to the Kulminator a few years back. The first night we were told the A+++ stuff was only available if you brought flights. The third day once Dirk warmed up to Tender's charm he was offering the stuff we were inquiring about the first night. I love this place too. A lot of character to the place and the owner.

 

I've been there twice, door locked both times. My bad though as it was a published vacation.

So my rationale is that if you don't hit at least one bar that's closed then you aren't getting out enough. Might be a bit silly but it helps me not feel so much of a dumb ass.

 

Or jump on the train and go back to kulminator , i just can't get enough from that place -)
