It's been over 10 years since this topic was raised, so maybe things have changed in that time. For good or for bad, my wife and I now frequently fly in and out of Schiphol. Often times, we have a considerable layover there as well. So it would nice if one could find something decent on tap to drink while waiting for one's flight. Schiphol is chock full of shops, cafes and bars, but I'll be damned if I've ever been able to find a place with a half way decent taplist (unless your idea of quality is Heineken or Amstel). However, Schiphol is a huge airport,so it's entirely possible I might have missed some gem. Anyone know of any place in the airport where a weary traveler might find a decent glass of draft beer?
I'm afraid last time I was there it was wall-to-wall Heineken. And it's not better in Amsterdam despite what people might tell you. However, you might see some of the many Heineken-owned brands such as Texels, Oedipus or Affligem at their bars. I seem to remember the Affligem blonde was quite palatable.
You really don’t think it’s better in the city? Wildeman & Arendsnest are fabulous beer bars & Walhalla brewery along with several others are putting out great beer! Cheers
To clarify, I don't agree with the common statement that Heineken tastes better in Amsterdam than anywhere else. Of course you will find more interesting beer in the city centre than at the airport.
Viva has T’Ij Wit & IPA, Oedipus, Affligem, Texels, and a few others. Murphy’s has an Irish pub with a few of their brands and Boulevard Tank 7. Hoofddorp (next to Schiphol): Gourmetbar in Novotel has about 18 beers. Den Bergh is a michelin starred restaurant, serving La Trappe and other quality beers.
I transit through Schiphol fairly often. The Heineken bar is the only one I've found other than the lounges. Would love to find another in the Airport for some variety!
