So, my wife is pregnant and really craving some beer. I offered up a couple of sours I have at 3-4%, but she wants to try an NA beer first.

Is there such as thing as one that isn't unbearable?

    Cheers!

(I didn't find a good thread on this in a search)

Maisel Weisse and Weihenstephaner make decent alcohol free beers. Not sure if you get them in the US or not.

I feel her pain... I was in the same situation from july 2013-march 2014. That being said, near beer sucks.
she's already not eating most of her fav foods (no salad bars, undercooked meats/fish, unpasteurized cheeses......) so beer isn't that much more to avoid.
Plan to give that fine lady a beer basket as a "push present".

There are some Goya malt drinks that may act as half-assed substitutes. Otherwise, may I suggest does a good low ABV quality beer in crushed ice? What ever is left over, Dad can drink what ever is left if there is a huge worry? I used to this at the beach for a different reason. Any good low ABV beer I ever had was really beer, weighing in at close to 3.0 ABV or there abouts.

Basically a decent alcohol free beer is an impossibility. That's because the alcohol isn't just a component which sits in the beer and which can be removed without disturbing the rest.It is in the way of being a canvas on which the flavours are painted. The "New Scientist" published a work on this some years ago.
It is possible to find an NAB which is acceptable in its own right but isn't beer as we know it. Rather like instant coffee in relation to the fresh.

I really enjoy Malta once in a while. Big molasses, malt sugar flavors. Pretty much unfermented beer. Brewed with water, malt(sugar), yeast, hops. The only bummer is that it is sweet, and most varieties use a sugar syrup to boost the sugar. The result is a sweet stout type beer, with minimal or no alcohol. Technically a soft drink, but brewed nonetheless.
