Did a quick search here and in South Atlantic and didn't see much... Anyone here have much experience in the Deep Creek area and where good spots are for beer? Any recommendations? The Places search shows Mountain State (bar/brewery) and one shop in McHenry. Seems to be pretty thin out there. I will be up there for a few days. I plan to hit up Mountain State for lunch when I can break away. Any other good bars? Or any spots to hit on the way from DC?
Not much to find in Deep Creek. Both places you mentioned are where I go. McHenry Beverage has a decent selection, nothing out of the ordinary. The small market (Arrowhead Market) next to the gas station actually carries some decent beers too, similar to McHenry Bev but less selection. Beers at Mountain State are decent, it's a relaxed family atmosphere and the food is good.
McHenry Spirits shop has a big selection, haven't been in 4 years though. Didn't hit any bars, we rented a house and just brought our goods back to the house. Flying Dog is in Frederick, might be your best bet on the way to/from.
Thank you both. Taking enough to get me through the few days we're there. Just planning to sneak away while the kids are in ski school for the day and my wife is skiing with friends. Will hit up Mountain State. Maybe hit McHenry at some point just because I have to at least see if there is something I don't get at home. Flying Dog isn't a bad thought on the way back, but I can hit Frederick anytime. Doesn't look like Frostburg to Hagerstown has much going on.
As the other posters have said, there isn't much at Deep Creek. Mountain State is about as good as it gets. If you are into delicious cheese, FireFly Farms in Accident has some really good stuff. They make their own and have other cheeses from different states.
