Anyone know if the label on the can is a born on date? Can't seem to find any indication in the forum or their website about it. It seems every can I have purchased in the last month or two has 03 06 13...I can't imagine every can on the shelves was canned on March 6. Or maybe it is?

I was just talking about this with my brother. Deep Ellum is fairly new to Houston and I have yet to buy their IPA I see at Specs due to me not seeing a bottle date and hearing mixed reviews about QC. If they do bottle date and I'm missing it id like to know.

Well, Specs has been out for a while. So when they get more, i guess we will see.

dont think we heard anything definitive here but I recently picked up a sixer marked '3 06 13' and found it fairly remarkable. perhaps that's june 3rd or not related at all because if that's march 6th than i really need to get my hands on some freshies.

I talked with Angela the beer lady at Specs Dallas last Saturday. She just got a fresh shipment in earlier that day, which also had "3 06 13" on the cans. I'm guessing those numbers are either arbitrary or Deep Ellum is still sitting on IPA from March. For what its worth, the sixer I grabbed from the fresh shipment was delicious despite the mysterious numbers on the can

    Maybe they're doing a weird British system and it's actually June 3rd, 2013?

I was at midtown about a week ago and they had 5 cases of Deep Ellum IPA on the floor. I picked up a six assuming it was fresh. I still don't see a date.

I never have worried about Deep Ellum IPA being old.. I have had about 15 six packs and never had a old or bad one..

It never sits on the shelves long enough here in Houston to be old me thinks...

After reading this thread i finally remembered to ask Tait @ Deep Ellum about the dates on the IPA - He said they currently don't put a date on there IPA...

your best option is to ask the store clerk(wherever you buy ur beer from) when they got there last shipment of DE IPA (E1G gets it every other week) and i was told they CAN it every week - means its probably a week old from the date of the delivery ?

i didn't ask him whats the date/code on that bar code 3 06 13 but im thinking it could be the date the cans were made by there canning company ?

    Cheers,
    sam

I had a sixer of this beer and I didn't think it was anything special. Pretty standard IPA.

    That's because it's a standard IPA...

Haha right - I guess I meant, it is a pretty run-of-the-mill IPA - nothing special. I wouldn't go out of my way to pick this over any number of other 'standard' IPAs.

I would definitely try it at least one more time. When they do nail it, it's incredible. With as rapid as their growth has been, they've had problems getting hop and malt allocations; I am confident that with the arrival of their new brewer Jeremy Hunt, some of these issues can be dealt with. If so, we're in for some really good beers in the future.

I agree that it might not be the hop forward crazy IPA some people put out, but as thirdeye11 said, its solid and great when they hit it. The freshness of this is what I think sets it apart from some of the big name stuff that sits on a truck 2 weeks to get here.
