    Per DE's Facebook page:

"Dallas, we have a problem. Earlier today, one of our sales reps visited the newly opened Scotch & Sausage. We were all really excited for their opening, and the possibility they'd carry our beer, but today we got hit with, "want your beer on tap? then pay us $120 per week or give us half price beer." This is called pay-to-play, and although it happens all too often, it is illegal - not to mention, unethical. I've never understood why a retailer would cheapen itself to the highest bidder rather than giving customers what they want? Needless to say, you won't be seeing us on the taps at Scotch & Sausage. It's unfortunate, as we were all very excited for this one, but our standards (and the law) will win every time. Cheers & beers."

I probably wouldn't be going to a place called "Scotch & Sausage" for beer.

There seems to be a pretty strong divide in this whole ordeal. People who feel S&S did bad and those that feel DE shouldn't have aired this crap out online and/or should provide proof before outing someone in this manner.

I'm kind of on the fence. Generally I don't like seeing this kind of drama between two businesses online. However, if they did in fact pull this shit, they need to be exposed.

I only see accusations being thrown back and forth with no proof. But DEBC has been known for airing their dirty laundry on social media and largely acting immaturely with their PR. If Scotch & Sausage really did this then very bad on them and they should be reported to whatever legal entity can deal with it, but the burden of proof is on DEBC and so far I haven't seen it. This whole episode just reinforces my decision to largely avoid drinking their beers - there are too many good beers on the market to support a company who promotes this type of culture.

Surprise surprise DE involved in another public argument. Glad I decided to not drink their beer a while ago. For the record I don't condone the pay to play thing either.

DE is opening itself up to a libel/defamation lawsuit, in my unprofessional opinion.

If you use social media to present the voice of your company, you should really think your posts through at least five extra times.

Unless...they actually did do that and then there would be no libel/defamation lawsuit.

I tend to err on the side of caution with DEBC, but based on S&S response, I have to believe DEBC.

    S&S FB post:

"There have been some strong accusations brought about by Deep Ellum Brewing Company about a recent visit to my restaurant Scotch & Sausage. My partners and I worked for over a year to get Scotch & Sausage open. We did a vast majority of research and development. During that R&D was sampling dozens, if not hundreds of beers. We only have 21 beers on tap, so we wanted to make sure that we have the best available. We did not find out about Deep Ellum Brewing when they walked through our door today. We knew about Deep Ellum Brewing prior; we just simply didn't like it as much as the other beers. One of their salesmen came by today and tried to entice my partner and my bartender to carry his brew, but we were not interested. We in no way asked for or offered a pay for play scenario. I am disappointed about how an established company like theirs took to social media to bash the new kid on the block because they were angry. We chose to not carry their brew because we are committed to serving what we think is the best. Deep Ellum Brewing is a local brewery, and we wish all companies that develop and grow here prosperity and support. We just simply choose not to serve it at Scotch & Sausage."

Unless there is proof it doesn't matter what happened.

What happened vs. what you can prove. If the glove don't fit...

Eh...they edited their response from their original one...where they did not deny the accusations. And then he had to make the claim he was taking the high road after insulting their beer...and then claiming he did not insult it:

"There have been some strong accusations brought about by Deep Ellum Brewing Company about a recent visit to my restaurant Scotch & Sausage. Yes, we are new to this industry, but we are far from novices. My partners and I worked over a year to get Scotch & Sausage open, and like any restaurant, we did a vast majority of research and development. Amongst that R&D was sampling dozens, if not hundreds of beers. The best part of development, I might add. When you only have 21 beers on tap and you have the build up and anticipation that Scotch & Sausage had, then you want to make sure that you have the best on tap. We did not find out about Deep Ellum Brewing when they walked through our door today. We knew about Deep Ellum Brewing, we just don’t think they are good enough to carry in our restaurant. A salesman came by today and tried to entice my partner and my bartender to carry his brew, but we were not interested. I don’t feel the need to discuss the extent of his pitch, but, based on the knowledge I have, I’m pretty confident his supervivor would not approve. I live my life by taking the high road and always being the better man, I will not accept any less for my business or my brand. Deep Ellum Brewery is a local brewery and I love the city and wish all companies that develop and grow here prosperity. I am disappointed about how an established company like DEB took to social media to bash the new kid on the block, but I will promise you Scotch & Sausage will always be the Better Business. "

My guess is that there is a histroy of bad blood here that we do not know about. Saying they do not serve their beer because it is not good enough while having Franconia regularly says something to me as well...

So basically the S&S guy says "I don't like your beer, but if you want me to put it on my tap wall, I'm not going to take the financial risk for it".

Good business practice IMHO for inconsistent beer. Putting it on social media is childish. DEBC is probably more insulted that a bar finally said "No way, your beer sucks".

After hearing them say "We don't think your beer is good enough to sell at our bar" I kind of want to check them out to see what is good enough. I better not see any Franconia. If they really do strive to meet a higher standard, I'd like to visit them more often.

They sell Franconia. Look at their facebook page. There is a picture of $7 steins that includes Franconia.

It's one thing for a person to call out a business, but for a business to do that is lame as fuck. That kind of douchebaggery is unbecoming, and it reflects poorly on their brewery. If it's illegal, call TABC don't post it on facebook.

Actually kind of like what Deep Ellum did. Only thing I have liked about them besides Numb Comfort

    /ducks

Edit: me liking it does not make it smart but legal stuff aside, if an individual is within reason to say it, a business should be too.
