If the bottles they used to contain BCBS were somehow damaged or cracked during bottling, it can happen anywhere. Usually this is caught in the distributor's warehouse or during delivery. However, if a distributor just drops a pallet of beer in an account and moves on, it can be hard to catch...especially if the beer has been sitting in storage for a few weeks.

I'm not saying the above is 100% the cause of the moldy bottles. I was just relaying my experiences with moldy bottles like this.

Cracked necks are likely the result of cardboard giving out - that happened at the store I visited. Someone picked up a four pack that was soggy and it gave out.

Sounds like poor storage conditions in general. Definitely disturbing and hopefully something they fix next year.

My bottles were all fine, and I have to say this may be the best batch I've ever had fresh out of the bottle. No alcohol heat at all. Super fudgey bourbon beauty. Christ. I wish I got more.

My Barleywine bottles are fine, but I did notice small patches of mold and some little bubbles in the glass on several of my stout bottles, and a weird crack in one of them.

Very odd. Meh...I cleaned them up and stuck them downstairs. Hopefully no big deal, although for the ridiculous price these things should be flawless, if not gold plated.

The beer in all my bottles keep dissapearing quickly. Very isolated incident though.

YOu are correct - it is Kohatu and Belma... don't know what I was thinking (considering I had just finished the bottle before typing that post. )

One of my 8 bottles of BCBS had a 1 1/2" long, deep gouge at the bottom of the neck. Opened it and the beer is fine, but it is something I have never seen before.

Opened a bottle of '12, '13, '14 tonight and the first two tasted great but the 2014 had a very distinct iron taste. Same as if you bit your tongue and taste blood. Did a blind-taste of the three and could instantly pick out the 2014 due to the off-taste. My wife tried it and picked up on it too. Bottle didn't look damaged at all. 13.8% variety. I had one out of the same 4pack yesterday and it tasted great but there were some particles floating on the top. Dunno, but makes me unsure of picking up more tomorrow like I had planned to do...

Edit: Also noticed there's an oily substance on the top of the beer with small particles floating in it. Tried some directly from the bottle with same iron taste so it's not a glassware issue.

No problem with the 4-pack I was able to grab here in SD. Bottles and fill levels are fine and the one I popped open tasted fabulous.

Actually just grabbed a bottle here in Seattle, and the bottle half is warped. Kinda tripped me out.

When a bottle breaks inside of a case, either due to handling or a flawed bottle, mold will form on any bottles that got wet from the breakage. It is not harmful, nor will it affect the beer. It just looks bad.

I had some on tap and there was nothing off, whether that carries on to bottling I have no clue, but a batch is a batch whether kegged or bottled.

This is what I came here looking for. I've had the 13.8 version on draft and it was fine, but I cracked open a bottle of the 13.8 and I can definitely taste iron. I've had Bourbon County plenty of times before so it's not just an unfamiliar flavor. It's just unfamiliar to this beer and really unpleasant.

We're definitely starting to see some QC issues, and while I don't necessarily think it stems from the AB-InBev acquisition, it probably does have something to do with trying to produce a specialty beer like this in such large volumes.

    Really:astonished:
As of 2013, approximately 95% of all bourbon is produced in Kentucky. The state has 4.9 million barrels of bourbon that are aging – a number that exceeds the state population.

That makes me happy... very happy. The best bit is we all have to drink the bourbon first!

And by the way, the state licence plates in Kentucky say 'Unbridled Spirit' which is a nice play on words and is kind of cool, but why don't they say 'we have more barrels of bourbon than people' - that is a way cooler statistic!

That last part is the only disturbing thing I have read in this thread.

ALL bourbon is produced in Kentucky.
If it's made outside Kentucky, it's called whiskey.
