This is incorrect. The legal requirements for bourbon stipulate only that it must be made in the United States.

Well, apparently the Yuma area doesn't sell enough GI to qualify for a allocation this year, so I won't have to be subjected to moldy, underfilled, warped bottles of BC

    And per Bourbon Regulations:

The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 C.F.R. 5) state that bourbon made for U.S. consumption[15] must be:

Guys, just a heads up, at least they arent partially sealed then WAXED so you cant tell like BBPT5... if people are going after these check for leaks, BBPT5 LEAKS, 4/8 bottles I received in a trade had about 1/4 of an ounce of beer in the bag and after 4 attempts to contact dark horse with no response it seems like their quality control department is non existent, along with their customer support.

4 regulars and 2 BWs under my belt in GR, Michigan. All of the regulars were 14.4%. Bottles were clean, intact, sealed, and filled properly (if we're to believe Larry properly fills Expedition Stout, haha.)

Sorry to hear of the issues people are having. But here; send me your BCBS bottles to inspect first before you drink it. I'll provide you with an honest assessment of the bottling, aroma, taste, consistency, and drink-ability for FREE!

Look at the evidence, folks. Bottle necks are cracked, some bottles are short on product, 4-pack carriers are soaked, bottles have mold. It sure seems to me that some new warehouse employee stacked the pallets too high for the lower ones to support them, or dropped the upper ones too roughly onto the pallet below so that we have bad handling as the cause. Cracked, leaking bottles are the result. And someone at the warehouse chose to distribute this mess anyway. Most pallets did not see any damage, therefore a lot of good bottles are in circulation. (Well, at least that's my guess.)

Allow me to be the 30th person in this thread to suggest that you send your suspect bottles to me for inspection.

On second thought, scratch that, since I am currently enjoying some other small, legitimate craft brewery's Bourbon Barrel Coffee Infused Vanilla Saturated Mega Stout, which is clearly superior to BCBS and it's many variants (actually that last part is probably true). :sunglasses:

I've had several 2013 bcbs that had a slight oil slick sheen look on the top as well as 2013 bcbbw with lots of small brown particles, everytime the beer still tasted fantastic with no off flavors at all.

I keep seeing posts about various ABV's on labels, but no pics. Can someone show this in pics? It seems very odd that they would run different labels. But if they did....

It is most likely this. But the more I think about it, hey, it isn't that big a deal. so someone made a mistake. Like Mothergoose says there are a lot of good bottles out there and a few problems. c'est la vie.

I chatted to a liquor store employee today who did the big release, and they told me they received cases with different years of barleywine, and they also had a case of 2013 regular mixed in their allotment of 2014. Seems to me that in the mad scramble to bottle everything (based on bottling dates posted here it took at least 10 weeks), expand distribution and ship a bigger than ever volume to more states than before there were some teething problems. Some broken bottles, a bit of spilled beer causing mold (I am more worried they spilled some beer and wasted it!) and some bottles that are a bit short on the fill. I picked up a 2nd 4 pack today and it seemed to be filled just fine (had a different bottling date) so it would appear that they just had a few rough days in the brewery / warehouse.

I was originally a bit annoyed that I ended up with 2 different years of barleywine (I ended up with one of each) and a few of my bottles seem a third or a quarter ounce short - but hey, I still have some great tasty beer (and a bonus mini vertical of barleywine!), and when my wife suggested I could return it to the store if I wasn't happy, I very quickly put it all back in the fridge .

The people who work at GI made more bourbon county and delivered it to more states for a black Friday release than ever before and had a few problems. I was complaining earlier, but actually that is me just being bitchy. So what - they didn't get it perfect, but got pretty close, Tonight I am going to crack open one of my fresh BCBS and toast the hard work of all the people in the brewery, most of whom were probably only making 8 or 10 bucks an hour to supply me with beer... great beer... beer that in fact costs nearly as much per bottle as the warehouse worker gets paid an hour. I was complaining earlier, and I realize I was being a whiny self entitled yuppy douche. I should STFU, say thank you and enjoy my beer!

Fair enough. So then my wife's solution was probably best - return all your various BCBS - I am sure they will give you a refund and sell it straight away to the next person!:grinning:

I damn well kept mine, so I must be pretty happy overall
