Op asked us to defend average/mediocre beer, not poor examples of swill that 90% of these posts are. Not trying to hate, just thinking that the OP had something else in mind. I personally have a soft spot for Keystone.

I'd defend Anderson Valley Brewing co Summer Solstice and Brother David's Triple. The Summer Solstice cream ale isn't what most hop/stout/sour heads would want, but it's good with almost any food or activity, especially on hot days or with food that isn't strong in the flavor category.
The AVBC triple isn't standout, but i think it's a solid reasonably priced triple (when in 4 packs). And at 10/11% ABV (I've seen both numbers on the bottle), it is a little higher than other tripels if you're concerned with that.

Leinnes Berryweiss. It was the 1st beer I had that got the wheels turning in my head that there was beer with more flavor then BMC. Its rated bad on here, but I think it has a great berry flavor and an awesome beer to enjoy on a summer afternoon.

Took the words right out of my mouth...
We always drink Labatts on the boat in Canada (being very careful - it's illegal there).
But when we get back to the cabin, we bring out the big guns.

    Less than 2 weeks - can't wait!

Sierra Nevada Celebration is a really mediocre beer. I dig it only once a year. Only one glass is all I need to remind myself how mediocre it is.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead. Always look forward to having one in the fall. Throw a shot of vanilla vodka into it and dress the rim up with a little cinnamon and sugar.

Us too. Cooler full of Labatts in the boat. However no one is watching us. We're in a pretty isolated area only accessible by float plane. Cheers man!

I like boddingtons. It doesn't have much flavor, but it is full of creamy goodness. In fact, I just about always have it in my fridge. It's fantastic with dominos pizza, fyi.

I don't buy Pabst anymore unless I'm at a crowded show where I'm likely to lose some to jostling anyway, but a while back a friend of mine offered me one and I'd forgotten that in the right circumstances it can really hit the spot. Not the same spot as craft stuff does, necessarily, but a spot's a spot.

I remember years back, when the whole "hipsters drink PBR/PBR's for hipsters" meme started, the dive I frequented offered it for two bucks a pint. Made me wonder to what degree the meme was a media-driven conflation of "hipsters" with the cash-poor generally. (Though I'd guess that since the meme took off, some who self-identify as hipsters began preferring Pabst as a matter of course.)

PBR drinkers often try to explain their consumption of a crappy adjunct lager by claiming it tastes better than the other lousy beers of the same type. It doesn't. It was crap when I first drank it in the 60's and it's no better today - except in the imaginations of those who've swallowed the retro-cool, blue collar image it's gotten among some young drinkers. :sunglasses:

    Most light adjunct lagers.

I'd rather drink them than a regular old american adjunct lager. They have no taste, but how does that warrant a 1/5 rating? I'd rather have no taste than a really fucked up off-putting note.

Since we're speaking faux-objectively about subjective matters, I maintain that Pabst is better than Busch and worse than Schlitz.

PBR doesn't have a blue collar image, it has a red neck image, and by saying that I would believe that I do not like it for the image because I am neither a blue collar worker like you say or a red neck. I hope I wouldn't fit into either of those categories since I am a student at the University of Michigan coming from the suburbs. Additionally, I believe I drink PBR over other Adjuncts not because I'm a young hipster but because my family has been drinking it before the 60s since that was my great grandpas favorite beer, his son's favorite beer, and my favorite cheap beer based on tradition and that may influence my taste because thats what I grew up on.

Good arguments are not based on assumptions :sunglasses:

Fat Tire. A lot of people's first quality beer and has that "hippie" appeal. Used to be hard to find east of the Mississippi.

Yes. It's nowhere near "perfect" but its plenty good enough when the occasion calls. :sunglasses:

I didn't assume you were blue collar, I said it has that image with young beer drinkers. It's more that than red neck.

The fact that my father and grandfather drank Genesee and Genny Cream in the 50 - 60's and that I also drank plenty of it in the late 60's and 70's didn't give me any illusions about it's quality. While I may harbor a certain nostalgic fondness for the brand and logo, I recognize it is and always was crap. No better or worse than all the other beers of that kind.

Look, if you really like American Adjunct Lagers, just admit it and don't pretend your PBR is better than the others. I have no problem with that. :sunglasses:

What do you think about Genny Bock?

    Cheers!

Genny Bock has always been a decent beer and is surprisingly flavorful for a large brewery product. Had a pint of the draught Bock this spring and enjoyed it. It doesn't try to compete with craft beers, but it's better than Yeungling Lager.
