Hale's Pale Ale. When I first started drinking craft beer and teaching myself how to barbecue, i.e., smoking meat over wood low and slow, I drank Hale's Pale Ale during the last hour or so of the smoking and while me and my wife and our friends devoured my ribs, pork shoulder, brisket, sausage, etc. It is now linked in my mind with good BBQ.

Miller Lite--as far as light AALs go, it does seem to have the most "beer" flavor.

Natural Light--it's as good (or no worse) than Bud Light or Coors Light at about $5 less a case. If you just want some fizzy yellow beer, may as well get it dirt cheap.

If we are going by ratings, Upland Wheat. It was really the first craft beer that I enjoyed and along with Gumballhead and DFH 60 Minute really opened my eyes to just more crafty things in general. It's a great gateway beer IMO.

I have a hard time believing many people these days would call Dead Guy more than mediocre.

However, I had my first one in literally years the other day because a friend brought over a sixer. I had to be polite - I also had a fridge full of Sucks and Founders Porter - but I'll be damned if I didn't really enjoy it. Very smooth caramel maltiness and just the right subtle hop balance. I felt like a snob for being reluctant.

I have some found memories (I think..) of those Mickeys hand grenades! You can just tell by the hornet on the cap they're gonna bite your ass. :grinning:

Sometimes I think its odd that I still on occasion crave an occasional 40 ouncer or other means of drinking malt liquor but I like what I like. Nice to mix it up every now and then and I know my wallet sure appreciates it too.

Since I just drank one, I'll defend Guinness. It's a given that there are much better stouts out there, even "macro" stouts like Beamish and Murphy's; but Guinness has a certain reputation. If I want a light-drinking dark beer that goes down like water - especially at parties and bro celebrations with friends who don't drink craft - Guinness is familiar and approachable.

And let's face it, it just looks manly in a pub glass.

Miller High Life. My "go to" beer when I hit the bars in hicks-ville
Goes down smooth. Actually has a taste to it, and is cheap as hell

boddingtons pub ale. a pretty good beer if you're looking to eat and drink a lot at the same time for a while.

Genny Bock: There are very few bocks available to me, and most are, unsurprisingly, spring seasonals, but I love the style. Genny Bock isn't amazing, but it's got what you want from a bock- a nice, bready malt flavor and a touch of noble hops. It does have a slight estery note, but, hey, it's $7.50 for a 12-pack.

I love AALs. (Havin' a cold High Life tall boy right now). I also really like a lot of "B" and "C" craft offerings, such as Dundee, Bridgeport and Widmer (Falconer) amongst others. Lots of good beer out there.

Guinness is a great choice. Gets shat on too much in my opinion. Not a favorite of mine, but a solid, accessible example of an Irish dry stout.

The reason I liked your post though is because of the Discharge avatar.

I have to give the nod to Yuengling Lager in this case. It's not loved by the masses, but it certainly is a step above the rest of a BMC filled tap list. I'll gladly drink one. Granted, it's usually reserved for BBQ's, crap bars or casinos but it still holds a place in my heart and gets the job done with some flavor.

    I have 2.

First, Negro Modelo. I really like it with Mexican food. And, half the time, it's the best option at the restaurants we visit.

Second, Bells Oberon. Rated "Good" on the site here but seems to get slammed in threads now and then. Well, it's the perfect summer beer to me. Tastes great after some yard work, bicycle ride, etc., in the summer.

I used to drink Bass everywhere I could get it. It's a great choice when options are limited. I'll pop a lime in a Corona on hot summer night and smile about it. There are many things worse than drinking mediocre beer, and few things better my friends

    Cheers!

Nothing of theirs gets super high ratings, but for my taste, and when the budgets a little tight (I'm not talking Labatt's tight, but more like Sam Adams tight) I love a few of Kona's beers. Longboard Lage, Fire Rock, Koko Brown, and Pipeline Porter. They don't get much love, but they're solid, and I've got plenty of beachy memories with all of those beers.

If I could add a second to the list, a great go-to cheap beer that my wife and I can both agree on is Tyskie (from Poland.) Goes down super smooth, and is great on a hot day.

Yuengling Traditional Lager is a couple notches above the average BMC output, and it served as my biggest gateway into liking beer. The first beer I ever loved...
