Moving to the wilmington area looking for the best local beers and spots to visit. I've been to iron hill a few times and think the beers are solid and the food is really good. I like pretty much all styles so I'm not looking for anything specific. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to DE. Here is the DE thread for this forum. Happy to have you here and please contribute to this thread. We are a small state overall. If you have any info please share it with us. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-beer-releases-in-delaware.223056/
Trolley Tap House, Two Stones are decent beer spots to go to. If you're into old school arcade games while drinking beer, there's 1984. Also Philly is about a half hour drive. Tired Hands in Ardmore, PA is a good spot as well. Neshaminy Creek isn't too far away either.
Yeah the best thing about living in Delaware is the easy access to other states - plenty of awesome spots in philly and the burbs, nyc two hours away, etc. In DE, Total Wine doesn't have the best distro but they have good prices and the chance to buy multiples when yo do find something good. Overall, though, if you can get used to the drive to Philly, you can drink amazing beers regularly.
Wilmington Bars - Trolley Tap House, Two Stones, Ulysses, Chelsea Tavern (1/2 big bottles on Thursday) Wilmington Liquor Stores - Total Wine, Kreston's, Peco's 30 Min Drive - - State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD - Tired Hands Brewing in Ardmore - Forest and Main in Ambler - Philly bottle shops (Northern Libs Beer, Beer Heaven, Bottle Bar East, etc)
A fair amount of discussion about visiting Philly (which is a good idea). I would suggest taking the train from downtown Wilmington to Philly. Cheers!
There's this on Saturday at Stewart's. http://stewarts-brewing-company.ticketleap.com/stewarts-beer-festival/
Ernest & Scott in DT Wilmington - good food and great beer list Inner Spirits in Wilmington/Trolley Sq - tiny little bottleshop where you're bound to find something interesting Frank's Wine - a bit overpriced, but decent selection. Can find some unique stuff there on occasion.
As for PA, my favorite spot to hit is the Whole Foods in Glen Mills. It's a small little shop, but PA gets much better distribution and they will get most of the special releases. Also, their prices are infinitely better than the Philly and Philly-area bottleshops.
Stopped by Dewey Beer Co. last week and wasn't that impressed. Location and layout was cool, but the beers were underwhelming. The Summer Ale was by far the best. It looked like they were still working out a few kinks across the board.
Distribution is only fair in Delaware. However, we are so close to MD and PA that do have good distribution that we are actually in good shape. My favorite is State Line in MD for tastings. Great deal and good people. The brewery scene right around Wilmington is a bit limited, but I know of 3 in the process of starting up so hopefully that will change.
