I am starting to plan for a vacation near Delhi NY and so far it looks like a bit of a beer dead zone - is that right? I am not even seeing a notable bottle shop anywhere near there. Usually I bring home a lot of beer from vacation but it is looking like I should plan on bringing beer with me. I know Ommegang is in Cooperstown and that will be a day trip, but we probably won't venture much further than that (Ithica is too far). The only cidery I found near there doesn't have a tour/tasting room as far as I can see (Gravity/Awestruck). I would love to hear about anything I have overlooked. I don't know if there are any PA beers that are hard to get there, but I would be willing to bring some up if there are any requests.
The only thing I'm aware of is: Roots brewing. Never been there, don't know anything except that it's in Oneonta. Don't know if you'll be going through Binghamton on the way (see you're from PA), but there are a few there. Water Street & Galaxy are walking distance from each other.
Thanks BrewMan - Roots looks like it would be worth checking out. Binghamton probably won't be an option on the way but I will keep it in mind.
I was up in Oneonta today and travel for work in that area all the time. Bottle shops are a no. I make it a point to find a good bottle shop in every area I work. That part of NY is mostly farms and small country towns. Most people just buy there beer at the local supermarket. Ommegang is worth the 45 minute trip, but Copperstown Brewing isn't worth going to IMO. Also be prepared to have to no cell signal in some areas.
There's a place called The Andes Hotel I saw back in late '06 that looks to be about a dozen miles out of Delhi. Might be worth your while... http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10864/?view=ratings Regarding the general Cooperstown area, can anybody speak to Council Rock Brewery? And is Alex & Ika still open?
I found a reference to Butternuts Beer & Ale somewhere - that looks like it might be in range. It has an incredibly annoying website (audio is WAY too loud and doesn't fully turn off when you mute it on the site), but other than that it seems like it could be a cool place to check out. Has anyone been there? The Andes Hotel looks like it might be worth a stop - thanks slander. BTW, I don't really need a bottle shop, but a grocery with decent local craft 6 packs would be nice.
