This was one of my favorite stores in Brussels (and my vote for the best in the city center) when I lived there a few years back. I went to Brussels this weekend, excited to go back to this store, but it was closed, a sign explaining it was "temporarily and exclusively open for private tastings." Anyone know the reason why or have any more info? Such a disappointment that this store (rated sixth or seventh best in Belgium on this site) isn't open to the public right now.
I was in Brussels recently and saw the same sign you did passing by this shop. I also used to live in Brussels, and remember being very frustrated at the unpredictable openings/closures of that place. It's a shame because they did have a good atmosphere and selection. Reminded me of why I stopped bothering with them altogether. Went there one too many times only to see it closed when it was supposed to be open according to their website, wasted so much of my time with them. There's a shop that's similar in this way where I live now, and I just don't understand it. It shows a lack of consideration for the clientele, who go out of their way to these shops for nothing. They end up going somewhere else that's reliable, even if the selection isn't as good. That doesn't answer your question, i.e. I don't know the reason it's closed now, but the owners clearly can't be bothered sticking to regular hours and open/close at a whim so I don't think the reason much matters. Too bad.
Would be a pity if it went downhill or had to close down, nice couple with excellent service. Always a great spontaneous stop off that tacky Rue des Bouchers and meet all kinds of interesting people at the merely 3 tables.
