Recently sent a box out in a trade and according to FedEx it was delivered (left on front porch, no sig req'd). The box was not there when my target returned home, so we assume it was stolen. FedEx sent me a claim form, but it's not sounding like they'll do much since their records show it was delivered. Any ideas on how I might be able to get some compensation or am I totally hosed? Planning on sending another box soon, once I secure a replacement bottle.

Happened to me last week. The package was delivered on Friday but my target said it was not there. He ended calling up FedEx and they delivered it to the wrong house. You or your target should give them a call.

I had this happen once. The other trader sent Via USPS for some reason, the tracking showed it being delivered on a Wednesday. I got home, and nadda. I called, and all they could tell me is the package was delivered, and they would have to speak with the delivery person. 2 days went by with no call. I called again, still no update, but it ended up on my door step that night in bad shape. I am guessing, since we get other people's mail ALL the time, it ended up on someone else's doorstep, and they either dropped it off, or gave it back to the mail man. Luckily I live in a pretty safe and friendly area.

We both talked to FedEx already and their driver supposedly did some kind of "investigation" which didn't help our case at all. They all seem to be towing the company line. Would homeowners' insurance cover something like this? Not sure it's worth going that route, but I am curious.

I had a package, not a trade, that said it was delivered and wasnt on my porch. I assumed it was stolen. I think it was UPS, and their records said it was delivered. It turned out that it was delivered to the wrong house, on a different street even, Luckily the people came over and let me know.

I've had a couple packaged that have been "delivered".... they just happened to be delivered to the wrong spot. Has happened twice so far (once across the street, once to another apartment in my building). In one instance it was returned to fed ex (really annoying, since they managed to fuck it up from there) and the other time the guy just brought it over to my house. If he's friendly with his neighbors, it might be worth asking around. Or hopefully whoever got it will send it back to fed ex, if it was a mis-delivery.

I've also had about 3 packages that stated delivered not show up. 2 went to my next door neighbor and the other I'm assuming went to a different neighbor because it had shown up at my door by the time I woke up the next morning.

I've had a large shipment from Newegg (like 6 boxes) stolen from my porch, no clue why the idiot delivery guy thought it was a good idea to leave the stuff without making sure we were home, at any rate UPS/FedEx should compensate you since they did not have a signature confirming someone received the box. When I put my claim in the UPS guy came by to talk to me.

As for homeowners insurance, even if they did cover it your deductible would be way higher than the box of beer likely cost.

I know a damaged box is the senders responsibility, but what about a stolen box? If the receiver doesn't ask for signature delivery it is assumed the box will be left outside the door.

I've had this happen a couple of times. Twice it went to the wrong house even though the driver insisted he delivered it correctly. The other time a different driver was there for a pickup and grabbed the wrong one. All situations ended well after 24 hours of panic.

IMO this one is on the receiver. The receiver's duty is to proved a "safe" address, and if the receiver is worried they can always ship to their office or put a "signature required" on file with the carrier. As a shipper, you have no way of evaluating how safe an address would be.

That said, if it happened to me on a box I sent then I'd probably see what I could do to help.

That is how I feel about it.

My wife and I just had a couple packages left at our door that were taken. The thief took them down the hall to the stairwell and opened them looking for valuables. One of the staff members saw some opened packages in the stairwell and delivered them to the correct apartments. Anyway long story short on 2 very recent occasions one of them was ours. They were opened but the contents were not very valuable (cooling fan and obscure DVD set) and thus the thief didn't bother to take them. We will now be designating signature delivery for all of our packages.

Thankfully no beer trades were affected, and even if they were I'd have never tried to get more beer from the sender. I was just wondering how others felt.

I agree, but with the proviso that the sender had reason to believe the receiver was not out of town, and notified the receiver with a tracking number. Otherwise, I think it is sender's responsibility.

Yep I agree with that. If you just blindly drop a box on somebody's doorstep, they can't expect to know about it. This also holds true for winter shipping - never blindly ship a box in the cold - you never know if your target is out for even a single long night. Returning home at midnight to a box full of beer popsicles is not fun.

    As always, communication is key.

Receiver knew it was coming for sure and rec'd a different shipment on the same day though that could've been from a different FedEx guy.

I had a box of some limited release beers stolen from my front porch a few months ago. Since then, when expecting a delivery from FedEx or UPS, I've left a note asking them to put it along the side of the house where it's not in clear view from the street. No problems since then.
