I'm coming down south for a visit next week! Anyone have any recommendations for bars/breweries/stores I need to hit up while I'm down there? Thanks, it's much appreciated!
Funky Buddha Lounge is just a hop skip and a jump down US 1 from Delray Beach.... That is a MUST since you'll be close. If you want to go a little farther south you can also hit up Funky Buddha's new production brewery in Oakland Park, that's probably 30-40 minutes south of Delray Beach. They have a pretty awesome tasting room at the new facility. Due South Brewing is just north of Delray off of I-95 in Boynton Beach and they're putting out some great stuff as well. That's all I got, I'm not from the area so I can't recommend any bottle shops/bars.
The Coffee District is in Delray and always has a great tap/bottle selection. There is a total wine in Boynton Bch to the north and Boca Raton to the South. http://www.mycoffeedistrict.com/
In Delray proper I would recommend Coffee District (as jmm380 mentioned) it is my favorite beer bar in South Florida. Also hit up Park Tavern and Tryst. Both are on Atlantic Ave. For a nice change of pace I love the Blue Anchor. An old English pub with 4 beer engines. A couple weeks ago they had Fullers ESB, Fullers London Porter, Ringwood Old Thumper and Wytchwood Hobgoblin on the hand draws.
I would go to the Funky Buddha Lounge. Nothing else worth the trouble...Due South is nothing special.
Even though I have seen you in our brewery a number of times and you have told me you enjoyed things?
Yes, I have enjoyed several of your offerings Mike. For the most part the brews are not my style, the Cat 5 (Island Hopper) was solid. I joined the "Club" looking forward to some newer creations from Kevin. I understand that the session beers are your sweet spot and I am sorry if you are upset by my comments. Many patrons of Due South are extremely happy with your offerings. Take care.
Mellow Mushroom in Delray is always great pizza with decent beers. Sybarite Pig in Boca is awesome for beer selection on draft.
And that's why I thought of it as a bit of a low blow. Not your style is an absolutely fine felling but to tell a person, who has never had any of our beers, that we are "nothing special" is a bit arrogant. You said it yourself, we have many people that are fans of us. How do you know that he won't try one of our beers and really enjoy it? Everyone has different tastes and that's what I love about beer, there is something out there for everyone. And you can absolutely not like a certain style because, well, it's your taste. But to try to automatically disqualify us from a curious party (the OP) without him ever experiencing us is robbing him of possibly something fun to do on his trip and maybe a beer or two that he will enjoy. You have no idea how many times I've heard people say to me that they don't want to try Brewzzi in Boca because they heard that the beers are bad. Heard, not tried and didn't like them, heard. I for one think that Matt is one of the most talented brewers I've ever met and brewed my favorite beer I had in 2012 (his American Wild Ale) and so far has my favorite from 2013 (Grodziske). That sucks that people won't try his delicious beers just because of what they heard. Look, yes I was a little agitated at the comment but I wasn't at your opinion. Your opinion is something I don't want to take from anyone, nor can I even if I wanted to. Definitely no hard feelings meant and I'll hopefully see you around. BTW Cat 5 will be back in probably a week and a half.
So total wine was kind of a letdown but coffee district was amazing. They're having some special event tomorrow evening that I'm almost certainly going to go back for. Due South and Funky Buddha are next on the hit list. Thanks for all the tips guys!
FYI, Due South is tapping one keg only of their Apple Brandy barrel aged Imperial Caramel Cream Ale tomorrow at 6pm. I'd get some of that if I were you.
Saturday could really work out nicely for you. Grab a glass of Apple Brandy barrel aged Imperial Caramel Cream Ale when its tapped at 6pm plus a flight sampler of their other beers then head over to Coffee District, which is not far away, for their Anniversary Party that starts at 7pm. You can check out Due South's current tap offerings at: http://www.duesouthbrewing.com/taproom/ Have fun!!
