    New Release Sunday January 8th
    Tasting Room Open 12pm-10pm

    From the brewery:
Join us in the tasting room for the release of our new beer; Gallows Hill. This New England Style IPA is sure to be unlike anything we've ever created and sure to please.

A beer as hazy as the nights sky in Salem

To sweeten the deal, the Empanada Guy Food Truck will be here, serving up hot foo in the parking lot. Come join us for the festivities on this beautiful Sunday.

I'm probably going to stop by and try it in a little while.

I'm assuming it's growler fills. They have Scarlet Night in cans and other brews in bottles. This may be bottled but I haven't seen any word yet.

They only do barrel aged bottles.

Growlers, pints and flights. I'm probably going to fill a 32oz. to see how it is

Ok. So, I want to be fair. Demented has released many, many beers, some I've really liked, some I haven't. I did stop by early today to try their new New England style IPA. But I also bought and drank several new cans from both Carton and Kane this weekend. That being said, Gallows Hill was not bad, but also not great. First of all, it's so dark it almost looks like a brown ale. Murky, yes. It does have some nice, fruity hops going on. I recommend they do some. Ore tinkering. As a comparison, they're about a mile short of Conclave's Gravitaitonal Waves.

I stopped by and filled a 32oz. growler. The barreled aged releases and last years 7 deadly stouts are very good. This was an average IPA. They claimed it would be hazy and it is very cloudy, a little lighter than a brown ale. It's got a very light mouthfeel and it boasts it would have citrus fruit but there are only hints in the brew. It's a good start but I agree and think more can be done here.

Few thoughts to follow when I get home... but quality has definitely improved in the past 18 months. Snacking on the red ale right now, I want a 4 pack

I agree. They've gotten better and I always thought Scarlet Night was a really good red ale.

So how did the imperial version compare to Scarlet Night?

I enjoyed the Scarlet Night before. You can get the flavor of the red ale better than with the Vermilion. The Vermilion was good, not great, but definitely boozy. I also got to try just a little bit right after it was poured, so I'm sure it might get better as it warms up.

I stopped by this past Saturday for their two year anniversary. It was my first trip to Demented and my first taste of anything hey brew. My wife and I tried four beers -Double Dry Hopped Be Real, Bacara, Astarte, and Gallows Hill. I liked the first two (although I wouldn't spend the $15 for a 4 of the IPA) but didn't like the second two at all. The Astarte was artificial and thin and the gallows hill IPA was dark brown and very malty. Wasn't expecting that after they called it a NE IPA

The space was nice although it looked like the line for cans was moving extremely slowly. They also use plastic cups for their pours which is fine but I just haven't seen that in a tap room in a while. The food truck and singer for their anniversary was a nice touch

I think the plastic was just for the anniversary party and the larger than normal crowd.

Quick question for anyone who has been there recently, do they typically have football on the tv on Sundays? Thanks.

It's against the law for them to do that, so doubtful

    Wait, really?

I've watched pre-season football at Cypress before.

Pretty sure it's one of those antiquated brewery laws in NJ. I know the owner of Magnify told me at one point that he was not allowed to show things like sports on tv at the brewery cause it was illegal.

Yeah I know it is against the strange NJ brewery laws but just like everyone has to 'take a tour' I wasn't sure what they did...
