Knowing now that it is Abrasive, sadly, it isn't all that surprising. I haven't heard of any wide spread issues this release, but with the last release and even Todd the Axeman and Furious, it seemed like Surly was having some issues with their canning line. Though, not sure I ever heard of half filled cans.

It sounds like Abrasive is harder to get in Chicago area, but it is all over the place here right now, even finally the latest canning run. If you need any Abrasive to send out to resolve this situation, let me know.

Wait, we are talking about Abrasive? There were stacks of it available at Binnys, and I saw some last week.

Really? 'Limited' is a bit of a stretch. Abrasive is almost a shelf beer these days (because of the price) - the Binnys around me had half a dozen cases stacked on the end cap for a month. I was expecting this to be some brewery only thing from Hoof Hearted or something like that... Just send a few cans already...

Doesn't seem to matter what beer it is. Before reading that it was abrasive, I was thinking that it sounds like it would not be hard to replace. If it is not hard to replace, why would a trading partner make it up? Just doesn't make sense. Send some new ones out of good faith if nothing else.

Edit: Requesting pictures is one thing with a big trade and something harder to find broke. Just send the cans.

Yes I plan on sending replacements. The purpose of this thread was to see if anyone else has had similar issues. I'm going to Surly this weekend so I plan on seeing if there will be any available up there.

The place I shop at did not get much. So yes in my case it was limited.

Check out France 44. As of two weekends ago, they had some 1/5 canning dates. Abrasive is all over the Twin Cities, but the problem is a lot of stores seem to only have November or December canning dates.

I am sure other places have the latest and last canning date of the season, but I have not seen them. Could always try asking in the Bottle Hunt thread in the Midwest Region to see if anyone has seen the 1/5 canning dates recently.

I am not sure if it is a long haul for you, but some of the binnys on the north side still have some. I am going to the store this afternoon - if you like I can report back on if my local store has any. Beermenus is still showing a few places that have it too if that helps.

I appreciate the generosity. I work in River North so I can check the one on Grand. I live in the far west suburbs. Unfortunately I will not be able to check any time this week. Again I've had all intentions of sending replacements plus some for the trouble in order to make this whole mess right. This is a strange situation and I think the general concensus here would agree

Yep, I agree - it is a strange situation, and certainly not something I have come across before.

This story is weird from both sides. Replace the cans and move on.

Just to make sure you're not disappointed, Surly itself cannot sell offsale from the taproom per (stupid ass) Minnesota law. I'd heed the advice of @nograz and you'll definitely get your fill of it from somewhere in the metro!

Wait so Surly can't sell to go beer? I was going to bring a small suitcase and load it up with Surly to bring home

They cannot. If you go on a sunday you can't go to liquor stores either.

Yeah, stupid law huh? There are a handful of decent liquor stores in the area near Surly. France 44 will definitely be a place you can fill your suitcase with goodies.

Up until a little over a year ago, breweries were not able to even sell growlers on Sunday, thankfully they can now.

However, Surly (Summit and Schells too) cannot sell growlers because they are too big (produce too much beer per year). Luckily, they can sell glasses of beer for onsite consumption, so that is something.

I've bought from France44 a few times and from what I remember the shipping was really reasonable. If Abrasive is all that's holding this up from being a positive trade then you could order from there, put your address for billing, and put theirs for shipping and send them a 4 pack already packed and paid for shipping-wise. I feel like the shipping was only 12 bucks or something and got to me in 2 days. The 4 pack should be 15.99

Well no to go beer is quite disappointing. But not a deal breaker. Thanks for the liquor store recommendations! France 44 ships straight from the store? I might just send the replacement cans straight from there if possible. Less hassle that way

I think he meant from the website even. Don't even need to step foot in their store.

Don't let it dissuade you. There are a ton of good liquor stores in the metro that are chock full of Surly goodness as well as some other fantastic local and regional beers. If you're gonna be around, check em out and you won't be disappointed.

Yes, you're correct, I did mean the website. Just thought it would be a hassle-free way to resolve the issue without the OP running around if he can't get it in his local area. I've ordered from them a lot and I always ship it to a friend's house who works from home since signature is required. Never had an issue paying and putting my billing information down and sending to them. Worth a shot as a last case scenario if @Jordan3292 can't find any.

I just placed an order and had it send to the guy's house. Thanks for this. Saved me a lot of running around and possibly not finding the cans.

Thanks everyone for their input and help!
