I'm from Indiana, but will soon be headed to the Denver Colorado area. Fairly new to the craft beer scene.... Any locals have recommendations on places/beers to check out while I am out there?? Looking to try a few things that I usually wouldn't be able to get in the Midwest!
Do a forum search for "a s s b a n a n a s" without the spaces...seriously. We get these requests all the time, so we started tagging posts with that word to make 'em easier to hunt for.
Another midwesterner moving to Colorado? That doesn't happen often. Seriously though that's awesome. I'm from Indy myself. Domingo already shared with you our encyclopedia of Denver-area breweries and such. That's a great start. Personally if I were you I'd hit up Great Divide, Avery, Dry Dock, and Crooked Stave first (though not necessarily in that order) and then go from there, but a lot of it is going to depend on your favorite styles of beer. There's a lot of good places to hit up here as you'll soon find out. Send me a BM if I can help you in any way. Cheers!
I think he's visiting, not moving. We have no room anyways Just kidding, don't forget to bring Sun King and Three Floyds along! Try and get up to FoCo too, it's a special little town, especially when the college kids go home for the summer! Breweries in Denver (more and more everyday!!) Great Divide, Renegade, Wit's End, Prost, Hogshead, Crooked Stave (guees it depends on the styles you like) Beer bars (more and more everyday) Freshcraft, Falling Rock Taphouse, Hops & Pie
Thanks for the replies! Sorry to be that guy that asks the question that has already been answered. Guess I got caught up reading posts, and didn't scroll down far enough to see the regional listings section. I thought Domingo was giving me crap for that when I first read his suggestion. Turns out that was very helpful. SalukiAlum, you are right, just visiting. My wife has family there, so we visit a once every year or two at least. First time since we will be going since I have developed an appreciation for better beer, so don't want to miss the opportunity. I actually just went to a Three Floyds Tap Takover at a local place this week and tried more of their stuff. Haven't had anything bad from their yet. Honestly haven't hit much Sun King yet, but headed to Indy this weekend, so will probably try to bring some back. I'll do some research and look forward to checking things out. Again, thanks for the suggestions and I'll update everyone in a couple of weeks when I get back with what I was able to try.
The updated list is in the "DenverBeerScene" (include spaces) search: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/denver-recommendations-needed.80795/#post-1165897
Just returned from our trip to the Denver area. Thanks again for everyone that provided input beforehand. I was able to try quite a variety of new beers, and was impressed with most of what I came across. The highlight of the trip was definitely our visit to Wynkoop. There I had a couple of samplers and then a couple of pints. Great variety of beers, good food, great atmosphere. Definitely will return. My favorite was probably the Belgorado Belgian Style IPA, but also had my first cask conditioned IPA (London Calling) which was also very enjoyable. And just to say I tried them, had a samples of Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout, Mile HIPA, Rail Yard Ale, and Patty's Chile Beer. Where else can you get bull testicles in one brew and chile peppers in the next?? We also stopped by River North Brewery, Breckenridge Brewery, and the Sandlot @ Coors Field (prior to the Rockies Game), and Lucky Pie & Taproom after the game. Lucky Pie had Left Hand's Milk Stout Nitro, which I have had in bottle in IN, but jumped at the chance to get on tap. It was GREAT! All in all, great trip. Obviously can't do all the area has to offer in a day, but I look forward to our next visit to knock some more off the list!
