We've been getting a few emails from people asking about details, so we want to confirm the ninth annual Denver Rare Beer Tasting will take place on Oct. 6 at the McNichols Civic Center Building.

This celebration of beer passion and craftsmanship is held in Denver during the Great American Beer Festival weekend. Proceeds from the event support the Pints for Prostates awareness campaign. Ticket prices are at the same level as last year: $165 for VIP and $115 for General Admission. Tickets will be sold via etix.com starting on Father's Day (June 18) at 10 a.m. (MT).

We're busy finalizing the brewery list and will announce those taking part on our Facebook page starting June 1.

Still my favorite event of the year. Been a volunteer for 7 of the 8 years but would absolutely be there even if I wasn't. The Pints for Prostates group knows how to run an event and they give us volunteers the ability to make it happen seamlessly. The generous pours and great beer list don't hurt, too.

The event itself is great, but I got my wallet stolen last year at the McNichols Center, during Rare Beer, so I will not attend an event in this building. Maybe it's time to go back to What the Funk??

Knobs303: We are very to sorry to hear this. It is the first report I've heard of the incident. We had building security and off-duty Denver Police Department officers on-site working the event. We take the safety of our patrons very seriously. In the past we've had jackets and cellphones turned in that were lost. In 2015, someone actually lost their wallet during the event. In each case we were able to reunite the items with their owners. Did you file a police report?

We've started to post breweries that have accepted our invitation to take part on our Facebook page and Twitter feed. We're increasing the number of breweries to 68 this year and we'll have more details on the event shortly.

Tickets will go on sale via ETIX on Father's Day (6/18) at 10:00 a.m. (MT). You can sign up for a reminder using these links:

Location has nothing to do with it...unless you were hanging with the salty characters in Civic Center Park before/after the event. The crowd in the McNichols Building on that day would be all beer people. Still, that is crappy and it is disappointing to hear about theft at a beer tasting event.

Did I at any point in my post imply that a fellow "beer person," as you put it, took my wallet? Maybe that is why I mentioned the event itself was "great," but went on to say, my wallet was stolen at the McNichols building. To be more specific the cash within my wallet, I suspect, was taken by a McNichols employee. I reached out to the McNichols people, but never heard back after my initial discussion. I described the entire scenario to the supervisor of the McNichols building, over the phone, but was never contacted after that. I'm over it, it was also my fault, so I've moved on and I can attend other events during GABF week, not at the McNichols building.

Knobs303: I'm a bit lost. First you say your wallet was stolen. Then you say it was the cash in the wallet and allege a building employee was responsible. While you call the Denver Rare Beer Tasting "great," you suggest in your posts that this type of incident might not have happened at other events during GABF week. I'll stack our volunteers and paid security presence up to any beer event I've attended in Denver during GABF or elsewhere. And my experience with the McNichols Building staff is that they are professional and the management is very responsive. As I said, your scenario is difficult for me to follow, but are you saying you left your wallet somewhere unattended (we do not provide a coat check or locker storage) or lost it during the event and when you got it back it did not contain your cash? Since this is a charity event, and an important fundraiser for our men's health campaign, I'm concerned these posts are creating a false sense that the event and the venue are not safe. We have built a pretty good reputation during the last 8 years and have a great bunch of craft brewers and beer fans that attend. I'm sorry that you did not reach out to us during the event last year or immediately afterwards. We may have been able to assist you in this situation, including in filing a police report.

Does it? @Lyke2Drink can easily contact the head of security at the McNichols Center and see that I indeed filed a complaint about the McNichols Security Staff and that approximately $50 was taken out of my wallet. Upon seeing that my fleece was gone, I immediately found a McNichols security person and after some back-and-forth, I got my fleece back and felt in each pocket to see if my wallet was there and my iPhone was in the other pocket. It wasn't until I got to Union Station until I realized that the cash was gone from my wallet.
Yes, I did misspeaks/mistype when I said my wallet was stolen, I quickly corrected my text and said the cash in my wallet was taken. What do I have to gain by lying about my experience at Rare Beer? I have said repeatedly that what they do(Rare Beer, and @Lyke2Drink) is very important, but maybe they should be aware of issues at the venue they chose to hold their event. During my conversation with the McNichol's head of security, he pretty much told me that I was lied to by the security person I had contact with and he was glad I brought this to his attention.
