So... I will be going to my first GABF from the beautiful sunny Southern California. I have taken the time to search the threads and have a pretty good idea about which breweries to hit up and what not but I wanted to acquire about places to eat. We do have a car but we would primarily like to stay around the downtown area but we definitely don’t mind driving out to a good spot. A tap list is not important - we just care about great food and restaurants that w can only find here.

    1. Steakhouse
    - money is not an issue. We just want to have a great piece of steak at a place that is not too uptight. Upscale, business casual spot is what we are looking for.

    2. Can’t miss
    - burger spot
    - breakfast/brunch
    - pizza
    - Mexican
    - ramen
    - just anything that is delicious and worth having.

    3. Cocktail bars
    - we love beer, we’ve done the breweries but now we want to just chill and have a great cocktail.

Again, we just want great food, a great atmosphere and to enjoy our weekend. I already done my research just want to see what locals have to say. It’s one thing to yelp things from California but it’s another to hear things from locals who’ve been there and done that.

I live 10min from the venue so most of what I know needs a car, but I've found amazing pizza downtown at Marco's Wood Fired, and Snooze is a super solid brunch spot with several locations around the area.

Burger- City Grille, My Brothers Bar, Cherry Cricket (ballpark location), Park Burger

Pizza- Hops & Pie(thin crust), Paxtis(deep dish(uptown location)). Also, there should be a Giordanos opened up by then on 16th Street mall. There’s no other pizza in Denver worth checking out than those 3.

Cheesesteak- Denver Teds (I’ve been to Philly several times and this rivals some of the best out there.)

BBQ- OwlBear (if their brick and mortar hasn’t opened up by GABF you have to watch their FB page to see if they’re doing a pop up anywhere. This is a must.)

Wings- Fire on the Mountain, Vine Street

    Mexican- D’Corazon, La Abeja

Steak - really digging Guard & Grace
Brunch - I skip it, because the meal comes with an hour wait
Ramen - Haven't really found one that nails every component, but was thoroughly impressed with the No Vacancy Gaijin in Zeppelin Station
Cocktails - Green Russel is cool, Willliam & Graham is one of my favorites. Death & Co. just opened up a few weeks ago.

Blue Pan is better than all of those places. Hops and Pie is second, but definitely worth checking out for a usually killer beer list.

Blue Pan is the best pizza in Denver. Highly recommend.

Don’t bother with Denver Teds. I’m from Philly and their cheesesteaks are nothing special.

Second Fire on the Mountain for wings.

Steaks can be had anywhere. Buckhorn Exchange is cheesy as all get out but they make a very good over priced steak. Urban Farmer is also a great joint for steaks in a hipster environment. There’s a Fogo nearby if you want to the Brazilian experience.

Its been a couple years now since I tried it but the schnitzel at Freshcraft is one of the best things I found to eat in the LoDo area. As is the chicken and waffles at Euclid Hall.

Never had Blue Pan but the term “Detroit Style” pizza is a joke. I guarantee it’s not better than Giordanos either. What do I know though.

I don't know if it's any good but "Detroit Style" isn't a joke, it's a real thing. If I was to guess, that it is coming from Denver, I'd set my expectations on the lower side, personally. My experience with pizza in Colorado is a lot different than all yours. Opinions and that good stuff...

Greenlight Lab is my favorite cocktail spot in the city. Mercantile does great cocktails too, if you're near Union Station and can get a spot at the bar.

Brunch: Snooze is the most overrated restaurant in Denver. Please don't judge us on that.

Haven’t been to the Congress Park location, but the Highland location is really small. In my opinion it is the best pizza in Denver.

We have Giodarnos here and I do like their pizza. I enjoy a deep dish pizza, but ultimately, I enjoy a pizza with fresh ingredients with some dough.

I know Hops and Pie is great and popular, but it's usually a wait and out of the way from downtown. Just FYI

Cocktails. I like Finn's Manor. Close to Bierstadt and really close to Ratio and Odells.

I don't go downtown all that much, so don't know many other spots.

Detroit style is definitely a real thing. If you like Chicago style pizza, you'd probably dig it.

Snooze is definitely overrated. For breakfast/brunch, I'd recommend Sassafras (Highlands location) or The Universal on 38th Ave. You also can't go wrong with the Denver Biscuit Co., even though all locations will probably be busy during GABF week.
