I have many... This one came with the 'Bier schmecker Stadt' package from the tourist office. (minus the beer, obviously.)

    Me too!

This was delicious for the first half, but I nursed this one for nearly an hour. I found the second half as it warmed to be far hoppier than the first half. It was odd.

FWIW, one of the reasons promoted for not drinking beer too cold is that the cold ‘numbs’ your taste buds/palate.

Maybe the ‘effect’ you experienced is that you palate became more ‘sensitive’ as the beer warmed up for the second half of your drinking experience?

    I am just guessing here.

    Cheers!

Jack- I usually find the bitterness exaggerated straight at fridge temperatures, mostly because the other flavors are muted by the cold (particularly in a SNPA, for example). As the beer warms the other flavors balance out the bitterness and mouthfeel.

I only had the Fastenbier bottle once, straight from the garage (high 40s), and although is was hoppy nothing seemed out of whack. I don't think I could nurse this beer for that long too see what would happen .

Michael, the one bottle of Fastenbier that I had so far this season went down pretty quickly. I have two more bottles of Fastenbier to drink and if I was disciplined I could try and drink slowly to see if I noticed a change. I sincerely doubt I will be successful in this exercise; Fastenbier is just so tasty!!

    Cheers!

    Jack

My first bottle was quite typical in terms of my perception of hop bitterness as described here by @TongoRad and the time in which that bottle was consumed was also quite typical as described by both you and @JackHorzempa. Hops up front as the beer was colder, nothing out of the ordinary, and the beer was drained in under a half hour.

This second bottle was odd because I couldn't detect hops in the nose or taste until it warmed up, then it became a bit overwhelming. As I said, it was atypical and I found it quite odd. I guess I'll just have to purchase another!

Now to keep with the theme of the thread.....I forgot, I also use this 0.4L mug from Jever for some pilsners, like this one in my glass right now!

The aforementioned HB stylized Becher (.5l), with a new addition.

Any beer character (good or bad) will become more apparent as it warms. If you've ever tasted a red wine a little too cold and then let it warm as you sip slowly you've probably experienced the wine's characters become stronger and even easier to discern. Beer works the same -- well, good beer anyway.

What's up with that Weihenstephaner mug? Is that a ceramic thistle??? Or, now that I'm putting the clues together, a pilsner glass with a football at the bottom? OK, I think I'm answering my own question here but any information would be welcome!

No worries, @spartan1979 just linked to a web site that sells a whole bunch'a German glassware -- including a Schlenkerla Becher. Not quite the same price, but the shipping is probably easier on the wallet!

As I look closely the football is perhaps a globe (?) which would make this a 2014 World Cup Celebration mug? That's my guess.
