The application calls for 57,423 square feet of new warehouse space adjacent to the existing 38,500-square-foot warehouse behind the brewery at SW Simpson and Colorado avenues. “We’re out of space,” said Gary Fish, founder and CEO of Deschutes Brewery. “We saw in the vicinity of 15 percent growth in 2014 alone. Our forecast is to continue to grow, and, in order to do that, we have to have somewhere to put the beer when it comes off the packaging line.” http://www.bendbulletin.com/home/2734194-151/deschutes-plans-new-warehouse#
They've had a separate barrel facility for a while now, and room to build at the brewery site, so this makes a lot of sense. Hope there's a cool spot in the new building to host barrel-related events.
In the mean time, they can kindly store all their excess capacity in the empty suite at our office condo for a nominal fee* *Nominal fee includes, but is not limited to, costs relating to the provision of utilities, the provision of security services to ensure custody of stored goods upon the licensor's premises, as well as the occasional sample of Obsidian and Abyss bottles, to ensure proper storage conditions and techniques are maintained upon said premises.
On my few trips to Bend, I've never stopped by the "big brewery". Just looking at some aerial of the facility, and it seems much smaller than I'dve thought. Only 4 shipping/receiving doors? And, on the SE corner of their lot is a smaller building, is that a water treatment facility? I've often wondered, given Bend's location in the middle of a freakin' desert, what kind of water issues the breweries down there have?
In the middle of the desert... with a healthy river 2 blocks away. Don't know what that building is, but if it's the one I think you're talking about, it looks like an office building from the ground.
On the view I was looking at, there was a small tanker truck parked next to it. Across from where the three loading docks are.
