Does anyone else love this seasonal as much as I do? It's one of the seasonals I most look forward to. For me it's like the Yin (female) to SN Celebration's Yang (male). I especially appreciate the sweet English malts used in this beer. It's increasingly difficult to track it down in recent years but it is possible if you try. Cheers.

This is a surprising and astonishingly accurate description. It was a regular purchase for me for several years but It's been at lest 3 maybe 5 years since I've seen it. We are a bit of a distro black hole though

I've been digging it for years and another 6pack is in my immediate future

Red Chair may be my favorite Deschutes beer. Some batches of Abyss were that, although I haven't liked it in recent years.

Very interested to read this thread. I tried it when Deschutes first released it and didn't care for it at all. I found it to be too sweet and malty, and just not very enjoyable.

I'm thinking now that I might need to give it another try.

I've loved Red Chair for years. It's always showed up in the Seattle area in the winter. I've wanted Deschutes to make it a year rounder, but that hasn't happened, so I just get used to looking for it in December. There's a six pack in my fridge right now (well, minus a few bottles).
I like the combination of malty and hoppy flavors. I don't find it sweet.

One of those I'd regularly purchase back in the day, but with the glut of IPAs taking up shelf space nowadays I haven't seen it in a few years.

My experience as well and you cannot filter for the beer using Deschutes beer finder so, for me at least I have to hover over a bunch of links that then displays inventory at each store that carries Deschutes products. I found a source 4 miles away which isn't bad, but that's 1 store in like 20 I checked out.

You posted the exact same thing I was thinking. I give Deschutes a lot more runway than it seems many people do, but I don't think I've ever had Red Chair - it's just never excited me. I'll rectify that tonight when I go shopping!

Here’s Rauls review of Red Chair circa 2013:

Ho-lee-s@%t... This thang is off the hook like a pit bull that broke it's leash! I mean, wow! Juicy, malty, pure green green grass...oh my! Cleaner than a spritz at the Ritz, I am feeling this one hard, my children.

This is like a world without the Kardashian's - excellence.

~Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it in years. Great beer nonetheless.

I remember liking it a lot, but haven't had it in several years. If I'm remembering right, it was soft, almost toffee like. Hops were on the herbal side of things, maybe minty? I'm putting the chances that Michael Jackson would describe it as "treacly" at a solid 50%.

I like it, and buy a couple 6ers a year. But I would love for them to bring back Cinder Cone red ale in its place. Always loved the balance of hops and malt in that beer, combined with a sub 6% ABV.

One of my lesser favorites from Deschutes. Loved the old Cinder Cone though

It's absolutely the only seasonal that is a "must grab" every year for me. Nothing drinks as easy and flavorfully after skiing or snowshoeing.

There was a period like 10 years ago where everywhere had it on Nitro. Ace.

Speak of the devil. I just happen to be at a beer bar today in PDX where they have it on nitro (Roscoe's). After all the banter on the thread, I ordered a glass. It's actually a pretty decent APA, though the kind of beer that I think is pretty easy to overlook in today's market. That being said, it's a very easy going and easy to appreciate APA. A bit on the sweet side for my palate, but pretty tasty nevertheless.

I think Red Chair was the last beer I reviewed on ba before my 9 year hiatus. I recall it was great.
Would like to revisit at some point.
Deschutes has always been solid. Just the hype train has changed over the years.

I prefer it to Mirror Pond. So smooth and crushable. Unfortunately, I've only had one sixer this season about a month ago and it's nowhere to be found locally now.

Thanks to you clowns and nostalgia I picked up a sixer at a local grocery store tonight.
Will let you know how the revisit goes from 10+ years ago.

I know there was internal pressure years ago from employees to make Red Chair a year-round beer, but the higher ups refused to do so.
