I find that when I am drinking marzen, witbier, heffe, etc the aftertaste reminds me of taking wheaties and mashing it into a liquid. Liquid wheaties in a cup to be exact. If I do detect the banana note that is expected out of a heffe, it smells like mustard.

Maybe I am biased toward only the hoppiest beers out there. If you add a boat load of hops to any beer, I will most likely like it. Are there others that steer clear of wheat based beers?

I get a boner just thinking about wheatbeer. When I'm drinking a hoppy American IPA I feel more like I'm drinking a fruit coctail. I prefer beer just to taste like beer.

I tend to stay away from wheat beers because for some reason I get a lot of celery flavor. It is a flavor I don't appreciate in beer.

ok what do we do here describe the taste or say we hate wheat beer?

    I love wheat beer.

If you do not , then don't drink it.:grinning: Right? common sense.:grinning:

If you want to know what we lovers of this "styles" think it taste like I be happy to. Just name the beer.

    PROST!:stuck_out_tongue:

echoing the above post, is this really just saying you don't like a beer style, you don't like wheat beers so don't drink them. I don't like IPAs I don't drink them end of story.
Every bar I ever have gone into tends to have IPAs at a 3:1 ratio to wheats so it won't be hard for you to avoid wheat beers.

ah it was his first post, a virgin no more. I bet he is logged off. I kind of hate when folks do drive by posts and never follow up. Still Its lets us cave trolls thread jack. Don't you hate all the IPA in bars now days, if you not a lover of IPA you have to really search hard to find a decent pub anymore.:stuck_out_tongue:

I like American wheats. As long as there are no banana undertones, I'm good to go.

It depends on the style of wheat beer. For example, I find hefeweizens and witbiers to be very bland. On the other hand, I find some weizenbocks to be quite tasty.

I like wheat beers. Some of my faves are Boulevard 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat, Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat, and New Belgium Accumulation White IPA.

I am here and it just happens to be that I am a very busy businessman. I do love IPA's mainly because the big citrus profile cuts into whatever malt character is present. Secondly, most bars serve IPA's too cold. Why? I don't know.

I actually do have issues in some bars during winter and early spring, if you dont like hops it gets brutal to find a solid draft option that is wheat, triple or belgian centered. Its why threads like this attacking wheats make me sad. Have your ipas just leave me an option.

I love most wheatbeers. Some however if not done properly can really taste medicinal. I would describe these as having an aftershave like aftertaste. Since you haven't dropped any names of beers I assume you have beer drinking a nasty gross wheat concoction. Try a few, without fruit and see if there are any you like. Wheat beer is a very hit or miss style.

I used to get the same taste whenever I would drink a wheat beer. I would always feel like I was drinking a glass of shredded wheat. I would also get a scratchy sensation in the back of my throat that I just didn't like. I always thought I had some type of intolerance to wheat that I was unaware of. One day they just clicked for me. now I don't get any of the negative qualities I did before and now I love them. Now I find them very refreshing and drink them all the time. Once I learned to like them it opened me up to a whole another world of beers to drink.

Some of the wheat beers that I have had are lost rhino marzen, dogtoberfest, ayinger brau berliner weisse etc and port city optimal wit. All of them to me taste like liquid wheaties.

The first two you listed are all barley-malt. Perhaps you just don't like malt-flavors. It's cool, keep on doin' like you do. No need to rationalize it by trying to find others like you. Get back to your busy NoVA business.

I get a light milky character to go along with the wheat in most Witbiers I try.

I personally like a grainy flavor profile is certain beers. Whether its wheat, rye, grassy tones, etc in some beers the flavors from the fields works well to me.

If it's not a hoppy wheat beer to leave a hop flavor in my mouth then the aftertaste that I get is a muted cereal flavor that has a softness taste sensation to it.
