My buddy was telling me how he sipped some of this St Dekkera Sour Strawberry Blonde and how awesome it was, and I was wondering what the availability is on this beer. It sounds amazing, and I have interest in obtaining some, but there doesn't seem to be too much information about it.

As far as I know it's only been a random DONG so far, available only at events like FOBAB.

He said someone had a growler at DLD; that's where he tasted it.

    It's not a DONG.

They growler these.. the availability is very infrequent though.

Next summer should see a jump in sour availability though.

I believe Sour Apricot was on this weekend.. think Strawberry was next when I talked to the guys this last week.

You'll be much more likely to find these sours on during the warmer months though.. and the growlers are definitely not cheap.

I guess I'll have to just keep peeping from time to time, and see if someone wants to help a brother out. What size and pricing are we talking about?

I stand corrected, glad to hear they'll be more available next year.

We'll, Destihl sells all their beer by oz pricing.

A 5 oz sampler will be 5/16th the price of a pint of that same beer (Of course, if it comes in a pint).. it's pretty exact math for them.

They sell in 64 oz growlers (and last I remember, they require you use their glass).. and I seem to remember an 8-10 oz glass of a sour being 8-10 dollars.

I want to say a growler of a sour is around $60 or more.

They'll typically have a St. Dekkera on at the Bloomington, IL location. I've had a wide variety including sour porter, oud bruin, flanders, cherry'd imperial stout.

We were the ones with the Strawberry Sour at the Hampton tasting. We booked at the Hampton that shares the parking lot with Destihl in Normal the night before. This was our second trip and the second time they did not have a sour on hand. We overheard one of the brewmasters tell the bartender that the sour would be ready in 18 hours thursday night. We told him our situation and he threw the kegs in the freezer to get them ready in time. In the meantime he put an apricot sour on that he just so happened to have in the cooler... That earned him a Pentagram and a Suedo Sue the next day. We kinda forgot to order more than apps, as we were so enamored with the Apricot. The growler was 48 dollars for a 'refill' the next day.

We saw a few other BAs Friday morning, and they grabbed the apricot growler that was shared at DLD. Having had a growler worth of apricot the night before we went with the strawberry. The brewer Mark we talked to was awesome about switching kegs around for tasting and getting everything online. Customers for life.

Mark mentioned that they are just starting to get their production brewery going, which will mean cans of their brews soon, with bottles of sours later in the process. You really cant go wrong with stopping over in normal and running up a large bar and food tab with the hotel across the parking lot.

Edit: They will be in Madison Wisconsin at Brasserie V Tuesday the 7th for beer week. They seemed to think they would have two of their sours on tap. We will be there for sure.

Ha.. you must've talked to Mark.

He actually texted me asking me what I knew/thought about TG and PseudoSue Friday evening..

Edit: Glad you enjoyed the beers though. He and Matt will be happy to read or hear about the good feedback.

I know this thread is old but just wanted to throw out more destihl love, I won a facebook contest for some free GI 25th party tickets but couldn't make it out to the pub to pick them up, no biggie I told them to give it to the second place finisher. They insisted on sending me some swag for being a good sport about it. This came in the mail a couple days later, [IMG]
Great brewery, great beer, awesome people. Sucks I can't go there more often, can't wait to get any of their beers in the chicagoland area.
