Thinking at making a stop at Destihl Sunday on my way home from a wedding. I looked online but couldn't find a current tap list. Can anyone help me out with what is on tap? I will prolly go regardless as i have heard great things, but though I woud try to see what I may encounter. Are all beers available in growlers too? Also, any input on their food? Thans for the help
Deep Fried Bacon = Fucking Go There. Also, they dont have Malort, but it *IS* possible to do shots of Campari.
Stopped at teh one in Normal, iL yesterday for the first time. Came away impressed. Deep Fried Jalapeno bacon awesome and for desert the Triple IPA
Small Batch Beer, I believe is the second runnings from the Antiquity RyeWine. Jivaro Oatmeal Espresso Stout Saison de Ruisseau Black Angel Stout Road Block Red Altercation Oktoberfest Anti-gluten Pale Ale Samhain Pumpkin Porter Vertex IPA Cherry Choc. Imp. Stout Volition Tripel IPA, Had this one about a month ago and thought it tasted like a screw driver, and at 13% (i think) it gets you there in a hurry. As for the food I would go for the Spicy Thai Shrimp, Kobe Beef burger or the Brew Masters Pizza. Really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, my wife loves the fried asparagus. Edit: should also add that all are available to go in growlers, but they only fill their own.
I will add again that if you're in town after three that you should wander two blocks south on Neil St. to the Blind Pig Brewery. Nice bottle selection if Destihl doesn't do it for you.
Why weren't there any cool places when I went to school there 10+ years ago? I guess craft beer was for "nerds". Bud light and O & O's were pretty sweet in '99..... Edit: Shark Bowls and Silver Bullets.....
Also, right across the street from Destihl (to the south) is Dublin O'Neil's, an Irish pub that has a mighty generous and tasty breakfast plate that they serve all hours. They also have a few decent tap selections. I agree, ten (or more) years ago I was drinking Guinness at Murphy's and thought I was something special. Though the Guinness I'm drinking right now has kind of a sneaking sweetness that I'm really enjoying.
check out Radio Maria too, they have lots of good stuff usually, and they are right across the street from blind pig. Also, Radio has wayyyyyyy less hipsters than blind pig
Yeah, when I wen to school there I didn't venture to much into the bar version of Blind Pig unless it was during the day, early night. The brewery on the other hand, that's where it's at.
So food was ok, menu read a lot better than it was executed. The Volition triple IPA might have been the easiest drinking 14% beer I have had in a while. Ended up getting a growler of that an the pumpkin porter, which my wife really enjoyed. I also liked the Cerise Imperial Stout, but the cherry chocolate stout was gone. Would definitely go back for beers, and would give the food another try.
I could see that. I only had a couple of appetizers there. They both sounded great on the menu, but were kind of simplistic on the plate.
