I am posting this thread to see what kind of interest there would be in frequent discussion on DESTIHL and their sour program or other new beers from them, in general. I live near-ish to the brewery and have had a number of their beers at the brewpub, off the shelf, and at festivals. They are always putting out new brews and since their production brewery opened, they are now distributing far and wide.

I'm no wealth of information in regards to their processes, distributor accounts, or inside info, but I feel they are a Midwest brewery "worth watching." As their sour/barrel program expands I have seen multiple new offerings each month in the St. Dekkera line. Not to mention their WiLD Sour series in cans. They don't have the hype or prestige of New Glaris, FFF, etc, yet...but perhaps they are on their way?

    Interest?

I just wish their SE Michigan distributor (Imperial) would pick up some of their sour stuff. Apparently they only carry the Abbey Single and one other beer, and refuse to pick up the Wild Sour Series.

Their beer is great... I think they entered the market with way too high of a price point though (6pack cans are reasonable) . On tap at the brew pub, the specialty stuff has been a dollar per oz (st dekkerah, dosvidanya, etc) but I've seen their 500ml go for $20+. Just way too many offerings out there to spend that kind of cash on Destihl IMO.

We are getting 4 packs of the Flanders and Gose for $8.99 here in Ohio. I've never seen a price point that low for a Flanders. I haven't seen the specialty stuff yet, so can't comment on those prices.

I definitely agree those are great prices, I am specifically referring to the 500ml bottles which some go for 21.99 here in Chicagoland.... ~1.30 per oz... I just think that's too much for any beer.

We have the Gose and Flanders in NE Indiana for something like $8.99. I've also found Hoperation Overload and Strawberry Blond. All very solid. I picked up a bunch of Strawberry Blond for $2.50/4 pack. Apparently they explode when not kept cold and the distro center isnt refrigerated. Whoops.

I completely agree with this. I think they do good stuff and I like hitting up the brewpubs when I go through Bloomington/Champaign. Staff is always friendly, even if they aren't all beer enthusiasts. But I do think their St Dekkera's are on the high end of pricing, especially for 375ml bottles (I believe that's the size). I also personally feel that their sours have an overly lactic taste.

Awesome feedback! I agree with everyone who says their sour stuff is great, it is. The 500ml St. Dekkera and Dosvidanya run $17-18 here in Central Illinois. I try and pick one of each up, but it's hard at that price for me, personally. They did a 500ml Adambier WiLD SoUR and it was priced much lower. The 4-packs run $8.99 here as well, which for anything "sour" is a solid price point, IMO. I've had the Gose (fantastic), Flanders (equally fantastic), and the Counter-Clockweisse Berliner Weisse (also good). Next up in cans is the Lynnbrook Raspberry Berliner Weisse.

I enjoy their Vertex IPA in cans, but wasn't as big of a fan of the Hoperation DIPA.

I go there every time we visit the girlfriends family down by bloomington. I love the place. Their canned flanders and gose are both great, food is always solid, and their staff is always great. We went there with a couple friends and the server saw we had a passion for beer and just decided to bring us out samples of everything they had on tap at the time (including their st. Dekkera they had on at the time). They dont have the rep like other midwest breweries do, as someone said earlier in the thread, but i cant say enough good stufg about destihl.

Add me to the Destihl fan club. Can series are excellent for the value. Love the Dekkera series as well, except for the price point. I assume that this is intentional... they have something for everyone.
