Determining Tap Water Concentrations from Water Report

    I just computed the concentrations for total batch because as a single reading of mg/L the concentrations of most elements/compounds was nowhere near the range indicated on Palmer's reference.

    I made the assumption that I should be calculating total concentration of a 5 gallon batch by multiplying the concentrations by the total number of Liters in 5 gallons. I guess this was unnecessary?

    That is what I was originally thinking. I think I'll do an experiment for my next batch, probably a nice easy pale ale since I can usually get them from boil to keg within 2-3 weeks. I'll make one batch with all RO water and one batch with 1:1 ratio of RO:Tap Water and test the results.

    The mg/l (or ppm if you prefer) *is* the concentration, and that's what you'd compare to Palmer's numbers. BTW, Palmer's numbers are a good place to start, but they aren't gospel.

    What you computed is the total weight in grams per batch. Possibly useful if you plan to drink the entire batch in one sitting and need to watch your daily intake of something or other.

    I'd recommend reading the water knowledge pages at the bru'nwater site, followed by the mash pH white papers at @utahbeerdude's MpH site.
