Anyone else taking part in the festivities in the metro-Detroit area this week? Another BA bud and I went to Slow's today and got to hang out with the guys and gals from Bells. They had all three of the jazz series beers on tap, as well as hopsolution, oracle, and this one goes to 11. We were surprised that there wasn't a larger crowd. A lot of fun shooting the shit with them though. Just wanted to start a thread where people can share stories/ arrange to meet up, etc. Apologies if a thread like this has already been started.
I was trying to keep it on the DL so the crowds wouldn't be too big I'll be at Kuhnhenn;s tonight for All Hallow's Ale release, Slow's tomorrow for the Founders tap takeover then Foran's Friday for the Bell's tap takeover. The Livery event was solid Monday! I may hit Mercury Bar in there too.
Damn, what crappy timing. Didn't they know I was working afternoons this week? I will be hitting Kuhnhenn's Thursday for a little taste and picking up a growler. Then, on to the beer fest Saturday!!!
I look forward to drinking more BB Stouts from MI than I can shake a stick at tonight at the Detroit Beer Fest at Eastern Market. 50 cent pours of Black Note and BBPt5? Yes please!
I was wondering the same thing. I was planning on heading there, but I stopped at the Mercury Bar across the street first and ended up staying there and drinking Black Note. 12oz pour for $7.55 seemed like a great price.
It was Better Half. Pours were only $5-6 for that and the KBS. They also had/may still have a bunch of beers left over from the Bell's and Livery take overs earlier in the week. First time I have been able to try Livery stuff, it's pretty top notch. Really liked a sour called Vesuvius or something similar.
Yeah you can't beat that price for the KBS and Better Half. They did have a ton of other stuff still on tap as well. Oak Aged Maillot Jaune was delicious as always. Who is heading to the festival tonight?
As one of the organizers for the admittedly smaller U.P. Craft Beer Week, I'm annoyed by the fact that Detroit Beer Week is pushing non-MI beer this year. It defeats a large part of the purpose, IMO.
Also curious what you are referring too. I don't actually recall seeing any events with out of state beer.
I think i know what he is talking about. one eyed betteys did a new belgium tap take over the first week of the event
http://www.imabeerhound.com/4th-ann...ng-the-craft-beer-scene-in-metro-detroit.html Most notably this statement: “While our primary focus will always remain on Michigan-brewed beer, it’s also important to recognize our brothers in other states who have fought so hard for the same ideals we are fighting for,” stated Barry Johnson, Regional Liaison for Liquid Table, and a highly-respected pioneer in the Michigan beer industry. “Many Michigan brewers got their start in other states, and many brewers in other states got their start here. Through our efforts we hope to promote Michigan beer, but with an understanding of the thought that ‘A rising tide lifts all ships.’” The brewing industry is like the "Kevin Bacon" game where any brewery can be easily tied to another, so that basically opens it up to promoting any brewery. Looking at the list there's a bar pouring random Belgian beers and I'm not sure how that's relevant. Liquid Table does a great job overall and they can do whatever they want. This is very much just my two cents, but to me a city/regional beer week should be about promoting beers from that city/region and not just random beer events for the sake of filling up your calendar.
