My sister is in MI for work. Specifically she is in St Clair right now and will be heading to Ann Arbor. She is willing to grab some things for me, what should I tell her to pick up. I am going to have her try and head over to Kuhnhenn and either grab a growler of something (suggestions?) or just pick up some of their bottles somewhere. Ive only had BB4D from them. I should also tell you that I live is Pittsburgh so we get a lot of the bigger MI breweries beers here. I know there is tons of beer in MI Im just not all that familiar with what. Anything that you guys get up there that we dont get here I should have her try and find. She will be up that way for another week or so. Any help with this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sam
Anything from Shorts in your favorite style is worth a shot. As far as Kuhnhenn growlers go, DRIPA is very solid, but the website does still say they have bottle of BA4D hanging around, if you're interested in getting more of that.
Meant to reply to the thread. ;-( If she can find any of Arcadia's Shipwreck Porter you won't regret it. Arcadia's Cereal Killer Barleywine and Imperial Stout are on store shelves now, and they're both very good.
Short's released some interesting stuff in the past few weeks. Raisin Apollo is a DIPA, Aorta Ale is a Red but hoppy like an IPA, and ControversAle (aka Hangin Frank) just got released. There might also be some Publican Porter and Woodmaster around still too. Also Darkhorse Double Crooked Tree and possibly Plead the 5th should be around. Good luck with your mule!
We also get most of Arcadia. Picked up a couple of the porters a few months ago and had the barleywine a couple time. Not sure about the Imperial stout though. Thanks again
Thanks for the heads up on the Shorts releases. As for the Darkhorse, we get most if not all there stuff around here. Love both the double crooked tree and plead the 5th, especially the ba version. Come to think of it theres not a darkhorse beer I dont like.
Also from Shorts you might be able to find Uncle Steve's Irish Stout and The Golden Rule, those just hit stores.
As of Wednesday, Kuhnhenn still had these bottles available: BA4D 4D Dark Heathen Triple Bock Winter Wonder Lager Vintage Ale Metry's Winter Lager Duvil in Ms. Jones Nine Prometheus Braggot Pumpkin Braggot Road Rash They are also releasing a new mead everyday in the month of March. You can check their current tap list on their website. I also agree with the Short's stuff, although it might be good to go somewhere that sells singles, since there's always 6 or 7 Shorts beers to choose from. I'd also recommend checking out Saugatuck Brewing stuff. Their Neopolitan Milk Stout is quite good and their Singapore IPA is pretty decent for $7.99 a six pack. Oh, and Frankenmuth New Year Imperial Stout 2012 was just released. 800 bottles. Some stores got some this week. I haven't had it, but that might be worth checking out.
A few other "deeper cuts" would be Northpeak's Furry or Burly Belgo. Also Tri-City's Giant Slayer imp stout is decent. Brewery Vivant cans should be around and you couldn't really go wrong with any of the four available.
I suggest Shorts (just like everyone else), North Peak beers (see av ), kuhnhenn bottles, Brewery Vivant cans, and maybe swing past the Jolly Pumpkin pub in Ann Arbor to see if they have any Bambic left. The only other thing that comes to mind is the stuff from Greenbush, but I don't believe it's distributed in the Detroit area.
