I realize there can be batch variability and a human's taste buds can evolve through time. BUT, Founders Devil Dancer this year is just NOT what I remember and loved so much. Gone are the dank, earthy sex-funk hoppy aroma and taste. This year's release has more malt than I remember, almost like an american strong ale (Stone Double Bastard Ale comes to mind). I still enjoyed it, but it was not what I was wanting.

Be glad you got some at all, sitting in SW Michigan here and the only way to get this delicious brew is for me to drive up to Founder's and get it. Goddamn distributors holding beer on us!

At least you can drive to Founder's without a hotel stay involved. We're still waiting for it in Eastern PA...if they could only blast this stuff out as efficiently as Stone does with some of their beers.

I've never tried this brew before, but these posts got me interested. Sex, drugs, and what, maybe some rock & roll thrown in there, too? I may have to plunk down the cash for this.

Very true, but no driving to Founder's to have Devil Dancer on tap and driving home for me, that puppy is high octane!

Funny you mention Stone. I was drinking my first Devil Dancer of the year last night and the first thing that came to mind was double bastard/Stone brew- strong/boozy/malty ale with hops. Like you, enjoyed it but thought it changed.

Yep, 'totally agree with you on that one. Will they fill a growler?

    Nope, it's a Class 3 brew, no fills. :slight_frown:
And my god, imagine trying to get through a growler of that by yourself!

That's where beer geek friends come in and you can enjoy it within your own walls without leaving your abode. There's a place in Philly that fills a growler, but it ain't cheap.

Blame Michigan laws, the only place we could get a fill of Devil Dancer is Founder's currently and not at restaurants or any non 'micro-brewery'. They might change that soon but even so growler fills are only 64oz bottles.

A growler is a growler, they're all 64 oz. Either way, you
A growler is a growler, 64 oz. Either way, you just instilled my confidence in PA.

drinking one now and I find it tits! Last year and even the year before was full of onion (which has evolved into an awesome beer now by the way) and by no means a BAD thing in my book, but this year's is more rich and thick! good stuff if you can get some!!

I found it to be seriously average. And ridiculously overpriced.

Had my first tonight - I agree with the Stone references. It's a solid brew, but it isn't something I'd pay $22 for a 4 pack again for. I'd consider trading a couple...

There are at least four 4 packs of this at my local shop. Saw it. Checked it out on BA. Decided to buy a four pack of breakfast stout instead.

Just bought a single bottle...haven't had it yet but it's definitely expensive. I think I paid $5.50 for a single
Then I'm in trouble. I didn't think Double Trouble was that special. I just don't think I like Founders IPAs...

I usually pick up one or two singles every year. I loved it the first time I tried it, but last year it was a total onion bomb, and this year the malt does seem to be a bit heavy. To be honest, it's my least favorite four pack that Founders puts out there. If it were up to me, I would have the Nemesis series come back with a different style every year.
