Order some from France44, they have a four bottle max though.

Dude you're not alone, I agree. It was definitely enjoyable, but not what some people say it was. Then again I drank a pliny and an Arctic Panzer before sooooooo :astonished:

In fact, I have been thoroughly underwhelmed with most of founders offerings. I had high hopes for this brewery upon coming to the east coast, but have yet to try anything that would elevate it to the level that some hold it. Enjoyed dirty bastard though, and should get to try backwoods bastard soon, so maybe my opinion will change.

Imperial Stout is unbelievably good. One of my favorite beers. I didn't like All-Day or Centennial, thought Double Trouble was fine but nothing special. Definitely not worth ~$12 for a 4 pack.

I'm finding I don't enjoy Founders hoppy offerings. I've had Centennial a bunch of the times, and I guess that was the best, but still not that good.

I just bought some Double Trouble and Devil Dancer a few days ago. First off, they taste the same to me. I also didn't realize Devil Dancer was $20 for a four pack. Insane. They're also too malty and a bit hot for my tastes. They're drinkable, easily, but there's a ton of IPAs I'd rather have.

I guess I should mention, given the title, that I've never had DD or DT in the past, so I can't compare them to previous batches.

I finally broke down and grabbed a 4 pack for $18.99 (at least $3 more than I've paid the last couple years) and I'm totally disappointed. This is not the beer I remember. This year doesn't have the crazy amazing hop character That made me want to dance with the Devil, but then as they say, Dance with the Devil and you might get burned. I did this time. It's still quite good, but not $20 good.

The $19 isn't bad, as that's the same price as the brewery sells it for, however as much as I enjoy Founder's brews, that's too expensive for that high ABV hoppy mostly malty mess. I'd much rather have KBS at that price and frankly have no idea why Devil Dancer is so much more expensive than in years past. On a side note though, it doesn't matter much, we still haven't seen much of this in SW Michigan due to that distributors.:slight_frown:

It's a bit of a novelty. Found it to be a little less of the caramel mess it was the previous two years. Agree with semi baked-- if you are a barley wine fan, this one rocks with one or two years on it.

Had it at the bar. Damn delicious and ended the hop to hoppier to hoppiest night perfectly. Great beer. Has nothing on Double Bastard. Two completely different animals.

KBS is one of the few that I'd gladly pay $20 for a 4 pack, but this year even that was about $5 more than previous years. I'm not liking the trend. Surly's always been outrageous on their specialty beers ($20 or more for a bomber) Thus I never buy them.

Consider yourself lucky. They're 26 bucks a 4 pack in NH. I paid 6.75 for a single just to try it. It was my first and last...

Interesting to read that someone liked it that much. I'm not criticizing OPs tastes, it's just interesting because I feel like that beer definitely got a "did not meet expectations" from this community, despite the 3.94 average rating. On another note, maybe I'll buy it this year now that it's purportedly more like a strong ale. Yum.

This batch was my first time having it but as it says triple IPA on the bottle I was expecting a big hoppy monster and that is definitely not that this year. I completely agree with the op, it was much much closer to a strong ale or barleywine.

2011 sure as hell did. It went from sweet liquid onions to liquid chronic. However, the 2012 is mighty fine drinking at this point.

I remember I had an 09 in late 2011 and it was very good. I just had it fresh draft a few days ago and had a nice hop presence, but was soooo boozy and smells terrible.

Double Bastard or Harpoon Leviathan Barleywine was exactly what I got drinking this year's batch. It was tasty but certainly not worth ~$20/4-pack. Based on the price, it will be just a single 4-pack this year. Likely will only buy a single bottle next year if the price isn't more friendly.

I've heard very mixed opinions and couldn't pull it on at $6 a bottle, when a 4 pack of BCBS is cheaper/same price.

I dont understand what all this is about I got onions and garlic and heat and caramel, just like last year. Subtle differences of coarse but there seems to be a lot of hullabaloo over something I personally don't think warrants it. A little more substantial malt bill anda lil residual sugar and everyone loses there shit? for why?
