Very interesting beer. More a Barleywine than a big IPA. Anyone else get that? I wonder what a couple of years in the cellar will do. Booze was there, but it was very citrusy and mallty. Many other flavors. Very bold and tasty beer but it reminded me more of Bigfoot.

My buddy told me that he thought that they should have called it an American barleywine instead of a triple IPA. Personally, I thought that triple IPA was a fair descriptor because I thought the hop aromatics and the bitterness was quite a bit more bold than a typical American barleywine, and the malt brought a lot less to the table than a typical American barleywine in my opinion.
I wondered the same thing when I bought my 4 pack. That, and the fact that I just couldn't get into the intense amount of piney aromatics and bitterness led me to throw a couple bottles behind the bar in my basement. Currently, I have two bottles that are around 14 months old. I'll let you know what I think of it when I get to cracking one open, OP.

Had a 2010 a couple of months ago that my daughter had in the back of her fridge (regular fridge at regular fridge temp). That big hoppy, malty, boozy monster had mellowed into a hoppy baleywine; booziness also mellowed out. It was delicious! I'm putting a few of these back for a few years in my beer fridge (kept at 45-50 degrees) as well as Dogfish Head 90 Minute & Burton Baton and Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree. If a DIPA/TIPA straddles the line of DIPA(TIPA) and Barleywine, it will probably aging like a Barleywine. It started out awful close, it will end up awful close.

I have not aged bottles in a couple years but I really like this beer with some serious time one it. I would not hesitate to stash this one away.

we did a 5 year vertical recently (09-13) and overall they were pretty bad. one was super onion-y, another was soapy, one of the older ones was the best of the bunch, i think it was 09. I think we ranked them 09, 13, and the rest were horrible.

Never aged one, but it could only help it I'm sure. Stuff is gross fresh IMO.

IMP barley wines age well but big hopped beers drink better fresh as hop character can decline with aging. Do keep it in a stable temperature
