A friend said i should try DB IPA and their lagers so went on their site for locate beer and it pulled up several bars and beer stores in ATL. Anyone know if they are in GA now? In the past i saw they were just a mid atlantic brewer.
Correct, you can thank AB InBev for their bigger distro. And yes try the Vienna Lager if you haven't had it before.
Looks like this week they are doing their official GA launch in Athens. Not sure how far their reach spreads outside of that area right now. http://dbbrewingcompany.com/devils-backbone-georgia-launch/ Georgia beer drinkers, Devils Backbone beers are on the way. Look for events near you in Athens & make plans to craft an adventure with Devils Backbone! I've had a decent amount of their beer, most of which is good for the style for styles that I'm not a huge fan of (especially their lagers). The one's that I've rated the best, and are still around, i.e. haven't been taken out of production or one-offs, have been: 8 Point IPA - This is their main IPA I believe. It's been a couple years since I've had it and I wonder if I'd still rate it so well with the explosion of IPAs that's happened in the last year or two Danzig - Baltic Porter, really solid beer Try them out, but they haven't knocked my socks off when I've had their stuff. But most of it is quite solid for its style.
You hit the nail on the head with the last part. I live fairly close to the brewery in VA and they are known for brewing great beer by style guidelines. You honestly won't find anyone better and I believe Devils Backbone is the most awarded craft (when they were still largely considered as such) brewery in the US. Their Basecamp and Outpost taproom locations do experiment quite a bit with styles but those largely are available only in their taprooms but for what is widely distributed I find both you mentioned as being really good. If lagers are your things then Vienna Lager consistently takes home gold at GABF year after year. If they happen to have Dead Bear or Cocoa Bear available at any of their tap takeovers down there definitely try it out. It's a big 11% Imperial Stout that is just fantastic. For Spring coming around I would also recommend Trail Angel.
This place will always have a close place in my heart, as I'm in Lexington VA quite a bit during the year (where the Outpost is). I'd also like to add that their Adventurer Sampler packs the past few go-arounds have been fairly awesome (collabs with other breweries, or family member collabs). And Dead Bear does rule. I got a growler of it years ago after running a half marathon up and down a mountain. Felt no pain afterwards. Glad Dead Bear was not a one-and-done
Found one bottle shop willing to bring the Vienna lager in but had to commit to a 12 pack. Glad I did its a solid VL that is not that common here except for Boston lager
