What is the best bar in Dewey for craft beers. I'm aware of the proximity to Rehoboth and have been to all the great places there, so I don't need advice on that. I'm also aware of all the breweries in the area and have visited them. I just need suggestions for Dewey Beach. Thanks
Dewey is a frat party that never ends, so the choices are pretty slim, and it caters to that crowd. Honestly the better options are in Rehoboth, not to say you can't grab a Dogfish or some other beer in Dewey at a bar somewhere, but they are all the same.
Dewey Beach is way emptier on the beach than Rehoboth or other places, at least in the middle of summer. Go to a beer store and just drink wherever you are staying?
Or if you are staying in Dewey, jump on the Jolly Trolly and go to Rehoboth for places like Dogfish Head Pub, Finns, and especially for beer and food Henlopen Oyster House is a must go.
As I said, I'm aware of all those great places in Rehoboth. Not worried about a frat party on a weeknight in September. I was just hoping someone could give me advice on a place in Dewey.
A website called the Rehoboth Foodie has information about all the restaurants/bars in the area. Dewey's food scene has kicked up a notch and I would think the beer programs have too.
The only place that I know of that carries anything beyond the usual suspects is Gary's: http://www.garysdeweybeachgrill.com/#menu-item-2941 (old beer list but should give you a general idea of what to expect)
Gary's or Hammerheads might have some stuff. Not sure if any will be open during the week in Sept though. Any of the big places might have Dogfish, but that's about it. Hit Atlantic Liquors for some provisions and enjoy your beers on the beach (it's not quite legal), but be discrete.
Dewey is really going to be in for a change in the coming years (good or bad depending on your point of view). Much of the housing is on very long leased land that are all coming up for renewal shortly and rezoning. Many people want to get that property and the value is going to sky rocket, with people wanting to do some big development also. There's been some fight about this, cause some residences don't want the place to get bigger, but I think it's going to eventually turn into a large Delaware version of Ocean City Maryland at some point. That's my opinion of course, but the latest hotel that was built (and only allowed to be built so big because of restrictions) went through a lot of resistance through some residents. Time will tell... but the beer and dining scene may really change (or not) because of this.
Don't ever see Dewey becoming close to Rehoboth or Ocean city, there isn't the land or boardwalk to do it. There was a brewery in planning for Dewey, not sure if they are still in progress or not. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dewey-Beer-Company/137635759694083?sk=info
well we ended up in Hammerheads before the show. Lagunitas IPA, Brooklyn Pils, DFH 60, Something from 16 Mile. It was fine. I didn't need 20 great choices. Awesome show too by the way.
