    It's not undrinkable, it's just un...good.

If I was looking to age something 21 years I might go for something like Samichlaus or Thomas hardy's or if DFH is your thing, world wide stout.

I think these are better candidates, IMO. Or wait until some 2013 bottles of Cantillon or 3F Gueuze come out.

Thanks for all the responses - much appreciated!

I pretty much drink DIPA/IPAs exclusively so a barrel-aged stout didn't really come to my mind for aging. Any suggestions on a, relatively easy to find (near Philly), barrel-aged stout to age? I think I missed the wagon on Bourbon County - I'd love to get something in a bomber.

Victory dark intrigue? Iron hill RIS? BB insidious, weyerbacher stuff like heresy, insanity, etc. Bells expedition ages great...not sure about 21 years though.

me and a friend cracked open some '09 120 minute a couple of months back, straight up digusting, we couldnt finish a bottle between us. At least fresh 120 isnt that bad but it turned into some sort of nasty smelly mess that tasted as worst as it smelled.

Honestly, if you're talking 2 decades, I think a gueuze might be a good idea. They have proven track records on aging for decades.

Two years ago I had a pour from an '87 JW Lees Harvest Ale at a Jackie O's bottle release. It smelled like soy sauce but tasted great. The oldest JW Lees I have is from 1999 and I also have 2x 2007 and 2x 2010 that I'm saving to drink with my kids on their 21st birthdays if they would like. I have a few DFH 120's left from 2006 and the last one I had about 6 months ago was excellent, tasted very similar to a well-aged barleywine.

I had a year old 120 not too long ago, and it was pretty incredible. Dfh is one of my favorite breweries. I had a 4 year old Raison De Extra a few years back and was blown away!

I think thats a pretty great idea to save it for your son's 21st, and I agree with the gentleman above me, it will mean more than the taste when you open it.

    Cheers
