I always was told the higher the IBU the more bitter the beer and when most of what I've had that's held true. Well that makes sense then. Thing is though it doesn't seem to help because to me its still overly sweet. Ive had various other high alcohol content IPAs and somehow they manage to make them without them getting very sweet at all.

I'll be doing this experiment shortly. I just picked up a fresh 120 and I'm going to side by side it with a 4 year old bottle. Will report back.

I think it was $8 that I paid. Hell, WWS is $8 a bottle too! DFH is getting expensive, no doubt.

I believe it is boiled for 120 minutes with continual alpha hopping...

Love the stuff. Moreso on tap, but bottles work as well.

Just saw a case at Zoe's for $185. Can you imagine all the calories in that box? It's gotta be around 10,000.

In general I too find the DFH beers syrupy and overly sweet, and too strong. I cut back my consumption of their beers a long time ago for those reasons. That said, now and then I get the urge for one of their other big beers.

BTW: I cut back drastically to keep my blood sugar from going through the roof.

This. Glad there is another one out there. For me they all taste like they have acetone and artificial grape flavor in them. Nasty.

It's a good, but not great, beer after 6m-1y age. Fresh it's blech. Oddly with this beer I find age brings out hop flavors. That said, only to a point. After 2+ years it's more of a turbo barleywine. I'm hoping TX gets bottles again because I miss a taste every few months. For the ABV, it's much a better DFH offering than Fort. That beer was tough to choke down.
