I've got a 2012 Bitches Brew that I'm thinking about opening. Has anyone had this recently, and has it fallen off or gotten better? Thanks in advance!

I just got a 2011 in a trade, so this is of great interest to me!

This beer is good fresh, but I don't think it falls in the category that "gets better with age". IMO, it stays about the same, which is good, for a few years.

First bottling was still very tasty over the holidays. A 2012 will be fine.

Agreed, just finished a 2010 and while it was good, I can't say time helped. When I first drank one of these in 2010, shortly after picking up 3 bottles, I thought, "gee this is a nice thick dark RIS but I am really not digging the bittering agent in this beer" which I guess is the gesho root. 3 years later, I still don't like the gesho and feel it really detracts from the beer.

I went deep on 2012 bottles and slightly regret it. I had one recently and thought this is a beer that is a lot better fresh to 6 months. I only bought two 2013's with the intent of getting to them rather soon. Maybe my assessment is wrong, for my taste, and they will turn a corner.

I opened a 2011 two weeks ago and it was good but with a touch of oxidation (paper) on the finish. The people I shared it with really liked it. Honey flavor is very noticeable. Once I taste oxidation I don't let it sit any longer but that's my taste preference.

I had a 2010 a few days ago and I thought it was exceptional. I didn't have a fresh one to compare it to so I'm not sure how much it changed but it seemed to hold up well.

Time to drink. After one year I was picking up on some strawberry cream notes! Was less impressed after two years.
