I have this early memory of founders having twist off tops years ago, can anyone confirm or deny this?

How long ago? I first tried them in 2007 or 2008 and they were pry-tops.

Founders did. I cannot recall when they changed, I want to say 2009?

Yeah they used to. I think the last version of KBS that actually read "kentucky breakfast stout" was a screw-off bottle with a pry-off top on it. I think this was around 2007 or 2008, and i assume they were getting rid of the old bottles at that point.

It was 2008, and it was twist-off. I just opened my last bottle of it last year as part of a vertical and it was outstanding. My personal opinion is that KBS is not nearly as good as Kentucky Breakfast Stout was. I was really disappointed when they changed it.

I believe that when the label went from Kentucky Breakfast Stout to KBS they replaced the vanilla that was previously used with chocolate. The vanilla did a lot for that beer.

That's probably a big part of it. The ABV is different too (10% vs 11.2%) and I think KBS is boozier/harsher as a result.

That's good I just remember thinking this is the only craft beer that I know of that has twist tops and then they seemed to vanish. Thanks for the input guys!
