Made my first IPA on Friday. 6 gallons split into two 3 gallon carboys. I'm tired and can't remember the specific ingredients, but one carboy that I used a Wyeast British Pale Ale yeast keeps popping my airlock off. The other yeast (dry) that came with the ingredients isn't blowing the airlock off. I can see action in the airlock so I'm assuming that ones fine. What's up with the airlock popping off?

Sometimes if it is wet or the bung in the carboy is squeezing too much on it the airlock will pop out. Confused me the first time it happened to me, but it does happen. just put it back in and let it go.

It's popped out about a dozen times that I've noticed since Friday, and I've put the airlock back on.

If it's popping off but there is no krausen coming out of the fermenter, then the airlock is too loose/lubed.

Leave it off until the fermentation subsides. It serves absolutely no purpose whatever.

Have you considered just putting a blow off tube on it? I still use buckets, but I pretty much use a blow off tube every time at least for the first couple of days of fermentation. Then I go ahead and put an airlock on.

Yea, just wrap some sanitized tin foil around the top if you are worried about stuff falling in.

Maybe, but I get a small amount of enjoyment from hearing the "clicking" sound...still...every time...
